二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Chinese painters painted on various materials in many formats. The most popular materials with the earliest artists were wood and bamboo but then the following were adopted: plastered walls, silk, and paper. Canvas would only be used widely from the 8th century CE. Brushes were made from animal hair, cut to a tapering end and tied to a bamboo or wood handle. Significantly, they were precisely the same instruments used by the calligrapher. The inks used were made from rubbing a dried cake of animal or vegetable matter mixed with minerals and glue against a wet stone. Each artist had to laboriously (辛苦地) make their own inks as there was no commercial production of them.

The two most popular themes of Chinese painting were portraits and landscapes. Portraits in Chinese art began in the Warring States Period and were traditionally rendered with great restraint, usually because the subject was a great scholar, monk or court official and so should, by definition, have a good moral character which should be portrayed with respect by the artist. For this reason, faces are often seemingly impassive (面无表情的) with only the merest hint of emotion or character subtly expressed. Often the character of the subject is much more clearly expressed in their attitude and relationship to other people in the picture; this is especially true of portraits of emperors and Buddhist figures.

Landscape painting had been around as long as artists had, but the genre really took off during the Tang dynasty when artists became much more concerned with humanity’s place in nature. Typically, small human figures guide the viewer through a panoramic (全景的) landscape of mountains and rivers in Tang paintings. It should be no surprise that mountains and water dominated landscape painting as the very word in Chinese for landscape translates literally as “mountain-and-water”. Trees and rocks are also featured and the whole scene is usually meant to capture a particular season of the year. Colours were limited in use, either everything in various shades of a single colour (illustrating the roots in calligraphy) or two colours combined, usually blues and greens.

【1】Which of the following is the latest material used by ancient artists?

    A.Bamboo.

    B.Canvas.

    C.Paper.

    D.Silk.

【2】Why did artists make inks themselves?

A.No one sent inks to calligraphers.

B.They wanted to make suitable inks for them.

C.No inks were sold in the markets.

D.The materials used were easy to find.

【3】Who is most likely to be the figure in the portrait according to the passage?

    A.An educator.

    B.A singer.

    C.A cowboy.

    D.A businessman.

【4】What began to rise in the Tang Dynasty?

    A.Portraits.

    B.Landscapes.

    C.Wall paintings.

    D.Calligraphy.

  • 22、As popular as they are globally, selfie sticks (自拍杆) are being asked to stay away from more places. Now the Palace Museum has become cautious about the device (设备), too.

    Museums take the lead

Out of safety concern, a number of museums took the lead earlier this year to ban selfie sticks in order to protect their artworks and visitors. Several major museums in other countries have said “no” to the device, including the Rome’s Colosseum, the Smithsonian museums in Washington and the National Portrait Gallery in the UK. More Chinese museums are joining the international trend as well, for example, the Nanjing Museum, which took the step last week.

Although the Palace Museum has not issued an official ban, the museum’s administration has recently warned visitors to be more careful with the device. If the device is used in crowded place or narrow area, the staff is likely to walk up and stop it. Selfie sticks are also advised to stay outside the exhibition area in the museum, as the stretchable (可伸缩的) device can be disturbing to other visitors and dangerous to the museum objects.

It is still a question whether sefie sticks will be challenged in more casual occasions like amusement parks, but the Tokyo Disneyland officially bans the use of selfie stick inside the theme park area.

    The voices

The Louvre museum in Paris has not yet banned selfie sticks, but an action is expected to be announced in a few weeks. A leader of the museum told a foreign media his vexation: More visitors are waving the devices high in the air, and some of them are only few centimeters away from the famous original Mona Lisa.

“Museum photos are good for spreading the cultural messages, but we should pay attention to our ways,” said Cao Wei, a famous Sina Weibo blogger. “I support the museums’ actions on the selfie stick ban.”

【1】Why have lots of museums banned visitors from using selfie sticks?

    A.Because they are illegal devices.

B.Because they may cause insecurity problems.

C.Because they may do harm to visitors health.

D.Because they have been forbidden in other occasions.

【2】What does the underlined word “vexation” mean in the passage?

    A.purpose.

    B.concern.

    C.determination.

    D.assumption.

【3】In the Palace Museum, visitors ______.

A.are never seen using selfie sticks

B.are forbidden to use selfie sticks

C.are warned to be careful with selfie sticks

D.are allowed to use selfie sticks only in exhibition area

    【4】In Cao Wei’s view, ______.

A.visitors shouldn’t get close to the artworks

B.the ban on selfie stick is necessary

C.visitors shouldn’t take photos in the museum

D.selfie sticks should be banned on more casual occasions

  • 23、Great Britain's electricity system recorded its greenest ever day over the Easter holiday as sunshine and windy weather led to a surge(激增)in renewable energy.

The power plants generating electricity in England, Scotland and Wales produced only 39g of carbon dioxide for every kilowatt-hour of electricity on Monday, according to National Grid's(国家电网)electricity system operator, the lowest carbon intensity recorded since National Grid records began in 1935.

The new low broke the grid's previous record of 46g on 24 May last year, during the country's greenest ever month for electricity generation.

On Easter Monday, wind turbines(涡轮机)and solar farms generated 60% of all electricity as households enjoyed a holiday lunch. At. the same time the UK's nuclear reactors provided 16% of the electricity mix, meaning almost 80% of the grid was powered from low-carbon sources.

The low-carbon power surge, combined with lower than average demand for electricity over the bank holiday, kept gas-fired power in Great Britain to 10% of the electricity mix and caused the "carbon intensity" of the electricity system to plummet to its lowest on record.

Fintan Slye, a director at the system operator at National Grid, said the latest record was another example of how Britain's energy system was transforming "at an astonishing rate" as the industry moves away from fossil fuels and begins to harness renewable energy sources.

"It's an exciting time, and the progress we' re seeing with these records underlines the significant steps we' re taking towards our ambition of being able to operate the system carbon free by 2025," Slye said.

【1】What can we learn about National Grid records?

A.There's been 3 records of carbon intensity in electricity production sincel935.

B.National Grid records are about carbon emission in people's daily life

C.The record on 24 May last year was the lowest until this year.

D.7g of carbon dioxide for every kilowatt-hour of electricity is reduced every year.

【2】What does the underlined word "plummet" in Paragraph 5 mean?

    A.Surge.

    B.Boost

    C.Crash.

    D.Balance.

【3】What can we know according to Slye?

A.Britain's energy system develops fast in fossil fuels

B.Renewable energy sources have been transformed.

C.It's hopeful for the system to be operated carbon free in the near future.

D.Great Britain's electricity system still has a long way to go in carbon footprint.

【4】What's the purpose of the text?

A.To inform us of the greener electricity system in the UK.

B.To speak highly of the first developing technology in the UK

C.To arouse people's awareness of climate change.

D.To call on other countries to follow the UK's example.

  • 24、With so many people in the world telling us we can’t succeed, we need to hear people telling us we can.I remember my high school English teacher telling me not to apply to Cornell University because they wouldn’t accept me and even if they did I wouldn’t be able to do the work. I almost didn’t apply but a few days later I saw Ivan Foldfarb, a former teacher, in the hallway and asked him about Cornell. He said, “If you get in, then you go. You can do it.” His words made all the difference. I applied and was accepted.

Too often we think it’s our role to inject a dose(一次剂量)of “reality” into someone’s life. We think we must point out how bad the economy is and how horrible the job market is and how the sky is falling.

I say there are enough pessimists and “realists” in the world. The world needs more optimists, encouragers, and inspirers. The world needs more people to speak into the hearts of others and say “I believe in you.” “If you have the desire then you also have the power to make it happen.” “Even if you fail, it will lead to something even better.”

When it comes to encouragement I know that every one of us loves working for and with people who bring out the best in us. We love being around people who uplift us and make us feel great.

And while we’ll always remember the negative people who told us we couldn’t accomplish something, we will always cherish and hold a special place in our heart for those who encouraged us.

Today I want to encourage you to be an encourager. Today decide to be that person who instills a positive belief in someone who for that needs to hear your encouraging words. Encourage someone who is feeling down. Fuel your team with your positive energy.

Share encouragement. It matters and we all need it.

1Why did the author’s English teacher tell him not to apply to Cornell University?

    A. Because the author had no talent.

    B. Because the author was a bad student.

    C. Because the teacher thought little of the author.

    D. Because the teacher didn’t want the author to attend university.

2What can we infer from Paragraph 3?

    A. The world is lack of “reality”.

    B. The economy is becoming worse and worse.

    C. We have to face a negative world every day.

    D. We take it for granted that we should reveal “reality”.

3What does the underlined word “uplift” in Paragraph 5 mean?

    A. to increase something.

    B. to raise something to a higher position.

    C. to give hope or encouragement to somebody.

    D. to make somebody unhappy or disappointed.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

    A. Be an encourager.   B. Always be optimistic.

    C. Failure is the mother of success.   D. Get away from negative people.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

The paper on my desk was yellow, with straight blue lines stretching across it. The lines repeated themselves all the way down the page. I counted them. Twenty-six straight lines ran across the paper. The yellow color reminded me of sunshine. In summer the sun is bright yellow like that, and the sky is blue like those lines. I loved blue — blue is for getting lost in...

“You haven’t written a word yet, have you?” Miss Perry had found me out. I hung my head, as in past years, and gave her the lines I’d given previous teachers.

    “I don’t feel like it.”

The truth was that I wanted to write about something different. “Write about Your Best Friend,” demanded the assignment on the board. I didn’t have a best friend. I had a few friends, but I didn’t want to claim any of them as my “best” because I was afraid they might pick someone else. What if I picked a “best” friend and then someone different, who thought I was their best friend, heard my paragraph read aloud and then never spoke to me again? It was a stupid topic. I was disappointed in Miss Perry for choosing it.

I knew Miss Perry must have heard about me from my other teachers. I had already prepared myself for another year of listening to teachers scold me. I was only nine years old, but my ears had been dull to the voices of my elders. My teachers, my parents, and the school principal had all given me the “What are we supposed to do with you?” speech. That was probably what Miss Perry was about to say, too.

    注意:

    1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

    2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;

    3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

    4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

    Paragraph 1:

However, there was something different about Miss Perry.
