26、Violent Games: Fun or Harmful?
If you play lots of video games, you’ve probably blown a zombie(僵尸) into tiny bits. 【1】 Many adults worry that playing such games could make children act violently in real life. Is that true?
The American Academy of Pediatrics(儿科) says that violence in any kind of media --- from TV to music to video games --- presents a risk to kids’ health. A number of studies have shown a link between video games and aggression, including one published in JAMA Pediatrics in 2014, which found that kids who played violent video games showed an increase in aggressive thoughts and behaviors. 【2】
But not all studies agree that violent games cause kids to act out. Another study replaced violent deaths with evaporation(蒸发) in a game. 【3】 People who played the non-violent game without any training were more aggressive afterward than people who played the violent version but learned to control themselves first.
And here’s an even stranger fact: When violent video games are released, people carry out fewer violent crimes! Why? 【4】 Steve Levitt, coauthor of the book Freakonomics, said, “If you can make video games fun enough, then kids will stop watching TV, and they’ll stop going out and creating violent disorder on the street.”
What do you think? 【5】
A.One possible explanation: potential criminals are at home playing the new game.
B.Then, before playing the game, some people received training and others didn’t.
C.More than 3,000 kids answered survey questions during a two-year period.
D.For example, thinking it’s OK to hit someone you don’t like.
E.Have you ever played any violent video games?
F.Do violent video games cause bad behavior?
G.Some games even pile up dead bodies.

28、 Why are people interested in eating raw foods or whole foods? One reason is that eating these types of food reduces the risk of acid accumulation in your body.
Raw and whole foods are usually digested more efficiently than cooked and refined foods. When we cook foods, we destroy the natural enzymes(酶) that are part of the food in its raw form. These enzymes were intended by nature to help us digest the food. When we consume food without these natural enzymes, our bodies either digest the food improperly or allow too many nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream. In both instances, the result is obesity. When too many nutrients are absorbed at once, the body grows fat. Improperly digested food moves slowly through the digestive tract, where it becomes increasingly acidic. To protect its vital organs from this acidic waste, the body changes the acid into fat and stores it safely away from the organs.
Processed foods contain chemical elements, which might confuse the appetite mechanism that tells us when we’ve had enough to eat; as a result, people often overeat. Processed foods also upset the digestive cycle. The body will either identify these foods as allergens and then store them safely away from the organs as fat, or the remains of undigested food will become acidic and enter the bloodstream as acid waste, which will stick to the blood vessel walls and block the passage of vital oxygen and nutrients heading for the body’s cells. The body’s metabolism (新陈代谢) becomes inactive, and the result is weight gain and obesity.
The accumulation of acid in the digestive tract makes digestion increasingly inefficient. When that happens, even healthy foods can become acidic and the food allergies will become more common.
To stop this vicious circle in its tracks, people need to consume food and supplements that will neutralize the acid already accumulated in body. Eating the right types of raw and whole foods can help. It’s also important to restore your enzyme balance. You need to identify and avoid the foods that cause acid accumulation and consume the foods that increase enzyme production. If you truly want to change and help your body heal itself, you need to take an active approach.
【1】It can be inferred from Para. 2 that ____________.
A. foods with natural enzymes help people keep fit
B. we’d better be cautious about raw and whole foods
C. it is essential for people to protect their vital organs
D. giving up cooked and refined foods is a new lifestyle

A. destroy body’s cells B. may lead to obesity
C. are difficult to digest D. stop body’s metabolism.

A. To warn people of the problem of obesity.
B. To advocate eating more raw and whole foods.
C. To inform people of the harm of processed foods.
D. To tell the differences between raw and processed foods.
【4】What is likely to be talked about following the last paragraph?

29、 Global finance is being changed as billionaires get richer and cut out the middlemen(中间商)by creating their own "family offices”,personal investment firms that look for opportunities in global markets. Largely unnoticed, family offices have become a force in investing, with up to S4 trillion of assets(资产)equal to 6%of the value of the world's stock markets. As they grow even bigger, family offices are sure to face uncomfortable questions about how they concentrate power and feed inequality.
These trends are unlikely to fade. The number of billionaires is still growing-199 newbies(新手)made the grade last year. Family offices' weight in the financial system, therefore, looks likely to rise further. As it does, some concerns about them will rise.
The first is that family offices could endanger the stability of the financial system. A $100 billion fund backed by the super-rich,blew up in 1998,almost bringing down Wall Street. Scores of wealthy people collapsed(崩溃)in 2008. Still,as things stand, family offices look like the next disaster waiting to happen. They have debt equal to 17%of their assets, making them among the least leveraged participants in global markets.
The second worry is that family offices could expand the power of the wealthy over the economy. This is possible: were Bill Gates to invest in Turkey,he would own 65%of its stock market. But a healthy economy's aim is usually to diversify risk, not concentrate power,by taking capital(资本)from the original family business and putting it into a widely spread field.
It is the third danger that has most bite: family offices might have privileged(有特权的)access to information, deals and tax schemes, allowing them to perform better than ordinary investors. So far there is little evidence for this. If all this did lead to an unfair advantage, the effect, when combined over decades, would make wealth inequality disastrously worse.
Most authorities are beginners when it comes to dealing with family offices, but they need to ensure that rules on trading and the equal servicing are observed. And they should require family offices with assets of over,say,$10 billion to publish accounts detailing their workings. In return, they should be free to operate undisturbed. They may even have something to teach asset managers serving ordinary investors, many of whom may look at their monthly fees and wish that they, too, could get away from the middlemen.
【1】What do we know about family offices in the first paragraph?
A.They made the global investments for billionaires.
B.Their influence on global markets will go unnoticed.
C.The rise of them contributes to equality in economy.
D.They contribute more to world economy than middlemen.
【2】"The least leveraged participants"(Paragraph 3) refer to the financers who.
A.make the successful investments B.easily fall into the financial crisis
C.work well with the super-rich class D.play a positive role in global markets
【3】What effects could family offices have according to the passage?
A.Their concentration of power brings potential risks to economy.
B.Their various privileges have greatly angered ordinary investors.
C.Their investments are beneficial to the stability of global markets.
D.Their workings could narrow the gap between the rich and the poor.
【4】What should the authorities pay attention to when monitoring the family offices?
A.The quality of their investments.
B.The freedom of their operation.
C.The equality in trading and servicing.
D.The interests of ordinary investors.

39、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My Kindergarten Hero
We had just completed a unit on community heroes, and I had given my kindergarten class a task to write or draw about their favorite hero. Each child was busy creating colorful masterpieces such as firefighters, policemen and doctors. Several students had chosen to draw larger-than-life brothers and sisters or moms and dads.
However, one little boy was having difficulty with the assignment. Cameron had touched my heart early in the school year. He had dark brown hair and wore his thick glasses. He looks like a younger version of Harry Potter at best. He often snorted (鼻息声) when he laughed, and the rest of the class would laugh along with him.
Cameron suffered from autism (自闭症), but that didn’t matter to me or his classmates. We all loved him just the way he was. He was full of wonderful stories and brought a special feeling to our classroom. I sat and watched as Austin worked with Cameron. Austin had a wonderful way of interacting with Cameron and he helped him find his hero. Within a few minutes, Cameron quickly began drawing blue lines and curves on his paper—he was particularly fond of the color blue.
Finally, it was time for everybody to share their hero pictures. I listened as each student proudly stood in front of the class, picture held high, and described his or her hero. Several students described their heroes by giving them superhuman strength. It was finally Cameron’s turn to share his hero. Cameron stood up and anxiously placed his large blue stick-figured drawing in front of his face. He then quickly burst out it was a picture of me. He added that I helped him learn things and then quickly sat back down. Tears began to form in the corner of my eyes, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened next.
注意:
1. 续写的词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When Austin stood up to share his picture, I was certain it would be a policeman.
