二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   The future of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which will open on Tuesday, has been doubted by some experts due to their low expectations as to its logistic(后勤的) functions. But instead, the bridge will play an important role in promoting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to research made by the One Country Two Systems Research Institute, the grand bridge connecting Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai will have limited effects on freightage(货运) but it will have a meaningful influence on passenger traffic.

Under the economic environment of the Bay Area, particularly the western part, the bridge's transport function will focus on passenger traffic.

The bridge will give a big improvement to cross-boundary passenger traffic as using it will not only be less time-consuming than the currently used circuitous(迂回的) land routes, it will also be more economical than travel by sea. Demand for cross-boundary passenger transport is expected to increase greatly.

And prospects(前景) for the bridge's traffic volumes have received a improvement from two policies. The first is that the bridge charge for vehicles will be driver-friendly — between 60 yuan ($8.66) and 300 yuan per trip.

The second policy is connected with private car drivers. Hong Kong drivers without a mainland license can apply for a permit online and drive around Guangdong for a short period after entering the province through designated(指定的) ports.

Along with other favorable policies, which have already been carried out, the operation of the bridge is likely to strength regional unity.

Greater cooperation between Hong Kong and the western Pearl River Delta is a major value of the bridge.

1According to the passage, we know that .

A.Some experts once thought poorly of the future of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

B.The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is only used for passenger traffic

C.Travel by sea will be replaced

D.Charge for vehicles will be high

2The influence of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge includes   .

A.Make the transportation easier in this area

    B.Improve tourism

C.Promote cooperation among Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao

    D.All of the above

3A Hong Kong driver without a mainland license can   .

A.enter the mainland through any port

B.stay in Guangdong for a short period

C.live in Guangdong as a citizen

D.drive around the mainland for a short period

  • 27、There’s nothing like having a best friend forever—that person who you can have fun with and talk to. July 30 is the International Day of Friendship. Maybe you can keep an eye out for a new friend to get to know. And while we’re talking about friends, don't think humans are the only ones who know a thing or two about friendship. Check out these friendly animals in nature who help each other out.

An elephant and an olive baboon (东非狒狒) can be friends? It sounds strange, but it’s true. You can find this pair of friends in the grasslands of Africa. This unusual pair helps each other out like any good friends would. The elephant uses its front teeth to make a waterhole in the sand, and it lets the olive baboon have a drink from this “well” when it gets thirsty. In return, the baboon tells the elephant when danger is near. It climbs up to the treetops and calls out so its friend knows that it’s time to move on.

In the sea world, the goby fish and the shrimp (虾虎鱼和虾) are well-known for their friendship. While the shrimp provides a home for the goby fish, the goby fish provides a guidance service for the almost blind shrimp. You see, the goby has great eyesight (视力) and stays close to the shrimp. As the shrimp moves around, the shrimp is feeling the goby with its antenna (须) from time to time to make sure it's still there. If the goby senses danger, she will return to the home and the shrimp will follow.

The langur monkey has a very good friendship with the chital deer (花鹿). While the langur monkey eats in a tree, it drops leaves to the ground. This is good for the deer because sometimes there’s not much food. The deer will follow the monkey and eat whatever food is dropped. And in return, when the monkey comes down from the tree, the deer will put its foot down heavily to tell the monkey if it senses danger.

【1】How can an elephant help an olive baboon?

A.They warn their friends of danger.

B.They live together with their friends.

C.They have a good sense of smell.

【4】What would be the best title for the text?

    A.Best friends forever

    B.Friendships in the animal world

    C.Love me, love my dog

    D.The International Day of Friendship

  • 28、Thirty thousand is a big number. It represents the amount of people who have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS, 肌萎缩侧索硬化). It’s also the number of times that Alex Sahinidis juggled(抛接) a soccer ball over an 11-hour period to raise money for the Live Like Lou Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to finding a cure for the discase.

Alex, a junior at Carnegie Mellon University studying economics and finance, works to raise money for ALS each year through the Students’ Union. Alex began his fundraising journey, which aimed to raise $ 1,000 for the Live Like Lou Foundation, in November of 2019. His progress was lagging behind though.

“We raise money for ALS each year, and I won’t lie, sometimes it felt routine and more often, like a chore,” Alex said. “My entire perspective changed when I met Susan. It gave me a sense of purpose.”

Susan is a resident receiving treatment for ALS at a medical center. Alex met Susan in October, when the Students’ Union provided members the opportunity to volunteer for an individual impacted by the disease. For Alex, meeting her was a life-changing experience.

Although Susan could not speak and required a machine to track her eye movements to express herself verbally, Alex recalls that she was optimistic and fun. “After completing some chores for her, she thanked me gently. But then suddenly, she broke down crying and I was immediately touched by her sensitivity and gratitude.”

His short time with Susan inspired Alex to speed up his fundraising. For the last month, he spent time individually raising money for the Iron Phi Challenge, an athletic event which raises money for patients like Susan.

Alex encourages others to find ways to give back, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. “No matter the circumstances we find ourselves in, there is always an opportunity to put a smile on another’s face and leave a positive impact on the world around you,” he said.

【1】What’s the significance of number 30,000 in Alex’s charity event?

A.It demonstrates his excellent soccer skills.

B.It stands for the number of ALS patients.

C.It refers to the target of fundraising.

D.It reflects the wide spread of ALS.

【2】Why was Alex’s fundraising progress slow?

    A.Lack of help.

    B.Lack of plan.

    C.Lack of guidance.

    D.Lack of motivation.

【3】What happened to Alex during his meeting with Susan?

A.He expressed his concern to Susan through a machine.

B.He realized Susan was stronger than he imagined.

C.He changed his view of the world and life.

D.He witnessed the optimism of other patients like Susan.

【4】What could be learned from the story?

    A.Helping others is helping ourselves.

    B.Better late than never.

    C.Kindness costs nothing.

    D.Actions speak louder than words.

  • 29、A lecture hall should be like a church—a little too dark, much too cold, and uncomfortably silent. You should feel guilty opening your water bottle, because all 200 people in the room can hear it.

So when I’m trying to pay attention, the last thing you should be doing is carrying on a conversation about your last weekend party or anything else.

During the past school term, I’ve had enough. One of my biggest complaints of large class sizes is the tendency for three to five friends to sit together and loudly whisper each others’ ears off for an hour and 15 minutes straight. My stupid monkey brain can’t help but focus on your conversation about the difference between ash blonde and light blonde colored hair that look exactly the same.

To me, it just feels like a waste. You’re actively wasting money, and missing vital information. We (and the government) pay quite a lot for our education, but you are here to ignore someone significantly more experienced than us, in classes we picked, for hours every week.

I know major requirements can be boring, but this is still an education. It requires twoway effort. Most students here have at least one goal in common: success. Not every checkpoint on that path is going to be filled with joy. Sit down, shut up, and force yourself to listen to your professor. Society tells us it will eventually pay off.

Or maybe it won’t because you don’t want to.

I actually don’t care if you decide to pay little or no attention to the lecture itself, so long as you’re not being disturbing.

For those willing to try, in 20 years when you finally pay off your debt with your fairly secure whitecollar job, you’ll look back and be happy that you went through the lectures.

【1】Why is a lecture hall compared to a church by the author?

A.Both places are open to the public.

B.Both places help rid people of their guilt.

C.Both places can seat over 200 people.

D.Both places are supposed to be quiet.

【2】What can we infer about the author from the passage?

    A.He likes persuading others.

    B.He tends to make complaints.

C.He values education as a duty.

    D.He cares much about friendship.

【3】How does the author feel when writing the passage?

    A.Delighted.

    B.Annoyed.

    C.Thrilled.

    D.Worried.

【4】What may be the best title for the text?

    A.Hard Work Pays Off!

    B.Focus on the Lectures!

C.Wasting Your Time Is a Shame!

    D.Mind Your InClass Behavior!
