25、The world uses about a thousand million tons of water a day. Water is a human right and everyone should have their share. Yet more than 700 million people around the world have trouble getting clean, safe water.
Treating wastewater is a good way to provide fresh water for us. And it also helps the environment by keeping waste out of rivers and oceans. 80% of wastewater around the world is not treated at all, and it is running into oceans. But now we have got the technology to treat and reuse the wastewater.
While 75% of our planet is covered with water, only 2% is fresh water-that comes from rivers, lakes, ice and snow. The rest, 98% of the water, is in seas and oceans. It is too salty to drink. Then desalination (海水淡化) businesses come in. More than 19,000 factories have been built around the world, mostly in coastal countries. They process (加工) more than 92 million tons of water every day. But the technology they use requires a lot of energy.
Scientists are working to create a less costly technology. They want to produce 20 times more clean water and make sure everyone has enough. But for now, the world still faces each day with not having enough water for everyone.
【1】How to provide enough fresh water for human beings?
A.By keeping waste out of rivers and oceans.
B.By treating and reusing wastewater.
C.By using less fresh water every day.
【2】What is the important way for us to get fresh water at present?
A.Getting fresh water from other planets.
B.Getting fresh water from seas and oceans.
C.Getting fresh water from rivers, lakes, ice and snow.
【3】What is the desalination factories’ disadvantage?
A.They are too far away from the seas and oceans.
B.The technology they use needs a lot of energy.
C.They can produce enough fresh water for us.
【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Everyone has enough clean water.
B.The water problem is still serious.
C.Our planet is covered with water.
26、The spoken language is very important. Master speaking by continuing to practice. Living in a country where the language is spoken makes this easier, but you can use other methods. Join a club where people speak the language. Make friends with people who speak the language.
Speaking, of course, can’t go without listening. If you want to pronounce a word correctly, first you must hear it correctly. The sounds of the Chinese and English languages are not exactly the same. If you don’t listen carefully, you’ll find it difficult or even impossible to understand the native speakers.
Well, what about writing? Like speaking, it’s to exchange ideas. People generally use shorter words and shorter sentences in their writing. The important thing is to make your idea clear in your head and then to write it in clear lively language.
Chinese students read far too slowly. If you read fast, you understand better. If you read too slowly, by the time you have reached the end of a page you have forgotten what the beginning is about. When you meet with new words, don’t look them up in the dictionary. Guess the meaning from the context. You may not guess quite correctly the first time, but as new words come up again and again in different contexts, their meaning will become clearer and clearer. If you look up every word, you’ll never finish a book.

Then people could write their notes on the back left side and put the address on the right, the front is for pictures. During the early 1900s, the golden age of postcards, picture postcards became popular around the world. In 1908, Americans alone sent over 677 million postcards. 28、Why do some people eat too much? Is it because they’re hungry? Or is there a scientific e【1】?
There are a number of theories(理论)to explain over eatintg. One factor depends on the time of day. “It’s all part of a h【2】.” says Randy Seeley, a professor in Cincinnati. “You’re hungry at noon because that’s the time you’ve eaten lunch for the past 100 days.” A【3】 reason we may eat more than necessary is because the body needs to s【4】 a sweet tooth or a craving(渴望)for sugar. Drinking alcohol also makes people eat more, because the body wants something to absorb the alcohol.
Overeating can also be a biological question. For example, your body temperature can tell your brain that you feel h【5】.
“Your body temperature drops when it’s time to eat, and eating warms you up,” says Gina Harlow, a professor at Harvard University. Also, the smell of certain foods can make us imagine the p【6】 of eating them. Harlow adds, “If you know you love French fries, smelling them will make you want to eat them because you know how good they are. And that can l【7】 to eating too many.”
