26、 Regarded as one of the English language’s most gifted poets, John Keats wrote poetry that concentrated on imagery, human nature, and philosophy (哲学). Although Keats didn’t receive much formal literary education, his own studies and passion brought him much success. Additionally, his own life situation influenced his poetry greatly.
Growing up as a young boy in London in a lower middle-class family, the young John didn’t attend a private school, but went to a public one. His teachers and his family’s friends regarded him as an optimistic boy who favored playing and fighting much more than minding his studies. After his father’s death in the early 1800s, followed by his mother’s passing due to tuberculosis (肺结核), he began viewing life differently. He wanted to escape the world and did so by reading anything he could get his hands on.
At around the age of 16, the teenage John Keats began studying under a surgeon so that he too might become a doctor. However, his literary appetite had taken too much of his fancy, especially with his addiction to the poetry of Ehmund Spenser. He was able to have his first full poem published in the Examiner in 1816, entitled O Solitude! If I Must With Thee Dwell. Within two months in 1817, Keats had written an entire volume of poetry, but was sharply criticized by a magazine. However, the negative response didn’t stop his love of rhythm .
John Keats’ next work was Endymion, which was published in May 1818. The story involves a shepherd who falls in love with the moon goddess and leads him on an adventure of one boy’s hope to overcome the limitations of being human. Following Endymion, however, he tried something more narrative-based (叙事体的) and wrote Isabella. During this time, John Keats began seeing his limitations in poetry due to his own limit in life experiences. He would have to have the “knowledge” associated with his poems. His next work was Hyperion that would attempt to combine all that he learned. However, a bout (发作) with tuberculosis while visiting Italy would keep him from his work and eventually take his life in 1821.
【1】Why did John Keats’ change attitude towards life ?
A.Because his parents passed away.
B.Because he only received poor education.

D.Because he received a lot of criticism from a magazine.

27、We have a strange obsession with the concept of perfection. Driven by our culture, we struggle for an unattainable ideal. If I had the perfect parents, perfect grades, perfect ..., then I would be happy. We seek what we can’t have without remembering that we don’t actually need to be perfect. Imperfection allows us to be humankind.
Parents, teachers and other high-achieving peers will have us believe that we must be perfect if we wish to remain competitive. However, what job or school requires you to develop a cure for some of cancer by the age of 18? Although those grades will be admirable achievements, are they worth losing sleep? We feel that we need the perfect grades to get into the perfect college that will provide us with the education necessary for getting the perfect job. Making use of our thirst for perfection, the whole college and career industries have grown up making money by helping us reach our goals.
In fact, you need to focus more on your passions. Don’t worry about anything secondary to your passions. You won’t become an expert in anything if you spend your time trying to succeed in everything you do. You’ll only become an expert when you devote your time to that one project that truly brings you joy.
As members of this society, we have a responsibility to be excellent in what we do, not perfect. Although perfection can be a goal, it should not be the only goal. We only have 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week. Thus, we need to prioritize what we what to do and cut out the activities we cannot do.
With everything, though, make sure you are doing enough. Pursuing your passions is not an enough reason to completely give up on everything else. Try as hard as you can and let your future worry about itself. Worry about your task at hand and you will be successful in achieving your dreams. Most of all, remember that you are going to be okay.

28、Girls should take part in competitive sport to build confidence, the leader of a group of girls’schools will argue this week. Helen Fraser, director of the Girls Day School Trust (GDST), will tell the group that sport can help girls cope with failure.
“All girls and not just the sporty ones should take physical exercise”, Ms Fraser will say. Research that girls are far less active than boys is worrying, she argues. Ms Fraser will tell the group that she backs “sport for all”. “That’s why I love it when our schools have A, B, C and D teams and beyond”, she will say.
The GDST draws on research from the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation which suggests only a quarter of girls in England meet basic levels(水平)of activity each week. One in five girls do no activity at all, twice the proportion (比例)of boys, the research suggests.
Ms Fraser says other research suggests that more than 80% of women business leaders played sports while growing up. She uses the examples of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, once a skater and tennis player, while the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, was in the French national swimming team. Ms Fraser says Olympic medallists like Jessica Ennis, Katherine Grainger and Nicola Adams are excellent role models for young women but says women’s sport needs more money and more news reports.
Valerie Dunsford, head of Sheffield High School, part of GDST, said it was important to offer a large number of sports to attract different types of girls. “Not everyone wants to be out playing the hockey (曲棍球)”, said Ms Dunsford.

29、When I was five or six years old, I remember watching TV and seeing other children suffer in other parts of the world. I would say to myself, “ When I grow up, when I can get rich, I will save kids all over the world.”
At 17, I started my career here in America, and by the age of 18, I started my first charity organization. I went on to team up with other organizations in the following years, and met, helped, and even lost some of the most beautiful souls, from six-year-old Jasmina Anema who passed away in 2010 from leukemia (白血病)—her story inspired thousands to volunteer as donors, to 2012 when my grandmother lost her battle with cancer, which is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF). We’re all human. And we all just want a chance: a chance at life, a chance in education, a chance at a future, really. And at CLF, our mission is to impact as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one.
People make it seem too hard to do charity work. The truth is, you don’t have to be rich to help others. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t even have to be college-educated. But it starts with your neighbor, the person right next to you, the person sitting next to you in class, the kid down the block in your neighborhood. You just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can. And today, I want to challenge each of you to make a commitment to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart. My grandmother always used to say,“If you’ve got a dollar, there’s plenty to share. ”

A.A chance.
B.A task.

D.A life.
【4】What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph?
A.Challenge their friends to offer help.
B.Work hard to get a college education.
C.Do little things to help those around them.

31、Directions: Complete the following passages by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.
As dusk falls at the Lehua Night Market, the fluorescent (荧光的) lights flicker on and the hungry customers start trickling in, anxious for a taste of the local delicacies that give this island its reputation as one of Asia’s finest cookery 【1】 .
Nearly arranged pyramids of plump fish balls, bowls filled with tapioca balls 【2】 in lightly sweetened sauce, sizzling oyster omelets, hot off the griddle, deep-fried sweet potato puffs (冒热气), still 【3】 with oil. Take a bite of any of these dishes and you’ll discover a unique texture. But how exactly do you 【4】 that perfect “mouth feel” so sought after by local cooks and eaters alike? Slippery? Chewy? Not exactly.
Luckily, the people in Taiwan have a word for this texture. Well, actually, it’s not a word, it’s a letter—one that even non-Chinese speakers can pronounce.
It’s “Q.” Basically, it means springy, soft, elastic.
Andre Chiang, a Michelin-star chef and owner of RAW in Taipei, said he has been 【5】 with the texture at his restaurant, which uses only local materials. “It’s like aldente (筋道) but not quite,” Mr. Chiang said.
Q is so well 【6】 in Taiwan that many in Hong Kong and across the Taiwan Strait in mainland China use the term as well.
There are many other uses for the term Q in Chinese as well. It could be used, for example, as short form for the English word “【7】”, or to refer to the once-popular QQ messaging service from Tencent.
Among the local people, the 【8】 for Q texture starts at a young age. On a recent sticky evening at the Lehua Night Market, a group of people gathered at stand with a sign that 【9】 “QQ ice lolly.” Asked why Q texture was so 【10】 to Taiwanese, Lu Wei-chen, the owner of the stand, smiled as she handed a bright red jelly bar to a delighted toddler.
“It’s simple,” she said. “When you eat it, you will be in a good mood.”
