  • 26、   The 1953 painting"Goyita"by Rafael features his mother with a red scarf on her head,a determined look on her face, and heavy expression lines,a portrait(画像)of a working-class woman that broke from traditional ones of the time that focused largely on wealthy men.

“Goyita"is one of more than 350 paintings from Puerto Rico that Google Arts&Culture digitized(数字化)for the first time with help from"Hamilton"creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who started the online exhibition that features works from four Puerto Rican art institutions.

The aim is to expose the world to Puerto Rican art, preserve it,and help museums in the U.S.that are struggling to exhibit paintings because of limited space and budget cuts.

Puerto Rico's artwork joins Google's current online exhibitions and stories from around the world. As part of the project,Google brought its so-called"art camera"for the first time to Puerto Rico. The camera has an extremely high resolution(分辨率)thanks to a 400 millimeter zoom(镜头)that uncovers details invisible to the human eye, including brush strokes(笔法)。It also allowed those at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture to find the signature of a pioneering female artist.

The camera took thousands of pictures to digitize 48 pieces of Puerto Rican art as it went inches by inches to cover an entire painting,a job that took 30 minutes to several hours depending on the size of the artwork, said Simon Delacroix,U.S.lead for Google Arts&Culture.

As Mr.Delacroix showed the power of the zoom on a painting called"El Gobernador Don Miguel Antonio de Ustariz",a collective"Wow"escaped from the audience attending the project at the Museum of Puerto Rico. The crowd could appreciate details in the background including someone that appears to be laughing from a balcony.

Google Arts&Culture already allows users to explore more than 2,000 museums and historic sites including Nelson Mandela 's prison cell.In total,it offers more than 6 million photos, videos, and other documents.

  • 28、There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some people believe that they can’t help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising, their muscles will turn into fat. Here are some more myths:

I’ll never lose weight --- I come from a fat family.

Wrong! While we can’t change the body type we are born with, we can’t blame our genes for making us fat. There’s plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habits of eating too much and exercise too little.

I am fat because I burn calories slowly.

Wrong! Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism (新陈代谢). If fact, although fat people consume more energy that slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat! Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake more accurately.

    Exercise is boring.

Wrong! Anything will become boring if you do it many times. The key is to develop a balanced and varied program that’s fun as well as progressive. If you enjoy a Sunday walk, take a different route. If you do Yoga, try a tai chi class. If you like swimming, set yourself a distance or time challenge.

    No pain, no gain.

Wrong! Exercise is not meant to hurt. Indeed, pain is your body telling you something’s wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury. You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but this your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear relatively quickly. If you don’t, rest and seek medical advice.

1What does the author think about being fat?

    B. It is the result of people’s unbalanced lifestyle.

2According to the author, how can we make exercise more interesting?

    A. By taking varied exercise.   B. By choosing simple exercise.

4What is the purpose of the passage?

    A. To declare the importance of keeping fit.

  • 29、When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say,”Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault,” or “I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault;the car broke down”. It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.

Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your workmate causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. You should accept the fact and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your workmate fails to do his job well.

This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners also have some problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own abilities. So, stop focusing on “whose fault it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.

1According to the passage, winners   .

    A. deal with problems rather than blame others

    B. meet with fewer difficulties in their lives

    C. have responsible and able colleagues

    D. blame themselves rather than others

    A. find a better way to handle the problem

    B. blame him for his lack of responsibility

    C. tell him to find the cause of the problem

    D. ask a more able colleague for help

4When problems occur, winners take them as

    A. excuses for their failures

    B. barriers to greater power

    C. challenges to their colleagues

    D. chances for self-development

5Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

    Mother's Gift

I grew up in a small town when the primary school was a ten-minute walk from my house. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.

One lunch-time when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed my lines so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's (旁白的) part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.

I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.

It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass in bunch, as if a painter had touched our landscape with gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. 'I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds,' she said, 'pulling it up by its roots. From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden.'

'But I like dandelions,' I protested. 'All flowers are beautiful---even dandelions.'

My mother looked at me seriously. 'Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it? ' She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. 'And that is true of people too,' she added. 'Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.' Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

  • 39、阅读下面文章,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事情节。

When a tornado hit a small town nearby, many families were left homeless. Afterward, all the local newspapers carried stories of the families who suffered the hardest to appeal to people’s attention and assistance.

One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of a mobile home, a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downcast. Hiding behind her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, wide eyes with confusion and fear. The article below gave clothing sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and three-year-old Meghan to help those less fortunate than themselves.

“We have so much. And these poor people now have nothing,” I said. “We’ll share what we have with them.” I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them in the living room. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and foods. While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. The boys were pleased to join. Bred rose and went to his room fast. He came back bringing his action figures that he played with not so frequently. Brett also jumped up and ran to fetch some of his Matchbox cars and airplane models. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up abandoned toys.

The boys placed the objects they had chosen to donate into one of the boxes while I filled the third box with clothes. Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, faded, best-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. “I’ll help you find something for the little girl, too” I said to the little Meghan.
