二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、It’s said that you can choose your friends but not your family. Maybe, But it’s clear that good friends come with plenty of health benefits, Now research suggests that your friendships may be more important than family relationships when it comes to your health and happiness.

Researchers from Michigan State University carried out two studies published in Personal Relationships. They first looked at data from nearly 280,000 people from almost 100 countries worldwide. After comparing people’s friendships and family relationships with their physical and mental health, the team discovered that friendship was linked to higher scores of well-being (康乐) than family relationships.

The second study involved (涉及) almost 7, 500 older adults, and suggested that the quality of friendships had a much bigger influence on health than family relationships. People who reported stressful friendships were much more likely to suffer poor health compared to those who had positive friendships; the influence on health from good or bad family relationships was small.

Friendships are very important to well-being. For one, it’s easier to drop a bad friendship than it is to cut ties with a family member. Even better, friends can also provide social support when things get tough with family members, such as going through a divorce or when caring for an aged parent. And long-lasting friendships are less likely to be filled with guilt than a family relationship.

Of course, good friendships don’t just happen — they require time, but time spent on developing good friendships is worth it.

“Friendships help us shun loneliness but are often harder to maintain (维持) throughout the life,” explains William Chopik, PHD, assistant professor of psychology.“ If a friendship has survived the test of time, you know it must be a good one. It means you’ve found someone you turn to for help and advice often.”

【1】What did the two studies focus on?

A.Examining the influence of friendships and family relationships on well-being.

B.Telling people to pay more attention to friends instead of family members.

C.Proving that friendships are the most important part of people’s life.

D.Finding out the similarities between friends and family members.

【2】What is paragraph 4 mainly about?

A.How family members benefit our well-being.

B.What family members are unable to do for us.

C.when friendships can play a key part in our life.

D.Why friendships are key to health and happiness.

【3】Which of the following statements does the author agree with?

A.Only time can test good friendships.

B.Friendships can happen all the time.

C.It takes time to gain good friendships.

D.We should be patient with our friends.

【4】Which of the following best explains “shun” underlined in the last paragraph?

  • 27、Four years ago, we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no waiting  in  lines  and  no  checkout? Or  could  we create a physical store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go, where you could experience the idea of “just walk out shopping”.

Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required. We created the world’s most advanced shopping technology, so you never have to wait in line. With our “just walk out shopping” experience, simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout.

Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our “just walk out technology” automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt.

We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. Our selection of foodstuff ranges from bread and milk to cheeses and locally made chocolates. You’ll find well-known brands we love, plus special finds we’re excited to introduce to customers. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, and you can make a meal for two in about 30 minutes.

Our 1,800-square-foot shopping space is conveniently compact(紧凑的), so busy customers

can get in and out fast. It is located at 2131, 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. All you need is an Amazon account, a supported smartphone, and the free Amazon Go app.

Amazon Go is currently only open to Amazon employees in our testing program, and will be open to the public soon.

  • 28、Norway' s capital Oslo will become the first city in the world to use wireless (无线的) charging systems for electric taxis, hoping to make recharging quick.

The project will use induction(电磁感应)technology, with charging plates (板) in the ground at taxi stands where taxis line up to wait for passengers,Finnish company Fortum, said on Thursday.

"Receivers will be in a taxi, and when it drives up to the charger, a wireless charging process will automatically start. This will allow the taxis to charge in a place where they would anyway be waiting for new customers, says Annika Hoffner, head of Fortum. From 2023 all taxis in Oslo will have to be zero emission (排放) and Norway wants all new cars to be zero emission by 2025. Among other nations, Britain and France have similar goals for 2040.

Fortum is working with US firm Momentum Dynamics and the city of Oslo on the system. It said the greatest difficulty with electrification of taxis is that it takes too much time for drivers to find a charger, and then wait for the car to charge.

"Time equals money when taxi drivers are working," said OleGudbrann Hempel, head of

Fortum' s public charging network in Norway.

Norway has the world' s highest rate of electric car ownership, partly thanks to measures such as free or discounted road fees, parking and charging points. If you buy an electric car, you do not need to pay the same taxes (税) as those on traditional cars, which are very high in the country.

Last year, almost one in three new cars sold was electric. With just five million people, Norway bought 46, 143 new electric cars in 2018, making it the biggest market in Europe. It is ahead of Germany which bought 36,216 and France which bought 31,095,according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association.

【1】What does Hoffner tell us about the charging system?

    A.A problem with the system.

    B.An advantage of the system.

    C.Possible customers of the system.

    D.Passengers reaction to the system.

【2】What is the problem with electric taxis according to Fortum?

A.They waste too much of drivers' time.

    B.They sometimes cause safety problems.

C.They cannot run as fast as traditional taxis.

D.They are not as comfortable as traditional taxis.

【3】What can we conclude from the figures in the last two paragraphs?

A.Electric cars are expensive in Norway.

B.Taxes on vehicles are increasing in Europe.

C.France is following the example of Germany.

D.Norway is trying to encourage the use of electric cars.

【4】Why does the author write this text?

A.To present the electric car market in Oslo.

B.To introduce an original program in Oslo.

C.To compare electric cars with traditional cars.

D.To show the wide use of electric charging systems.

  • 29、Last week, my younger brother visited me for five days. To ensure I could spend as much time with him as possible, I worked extra hard during the weekend before he arrived.

It amazed me how much I could accomplish when I had a strong motivation to be efficient.

During the week, I put in a couple of hours in the mornings to handle pressing issues and then spent the afternoons and evenings going out with him. Once again, I was surprised to realize just how much free time was available to me if I consciously chose to be more effective while working.

This made me think of Parkinson’s Law: Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.

I realized then that I’d given myself more time than necessary for work, and as a result, I ended up spending a lot of time delaying needlessly and entertaining myself online.

I realize not everyone has flexible work schedules, but I believe we could all create more time for ourselves if we were motivated to cut out the choices that don’t match our strongest desires and intentions. Maybe it’s being absent-minded in front of the TV or searching the web.

I believe what English musician John Lennon said is true: Time that you enjoyed wasting was not wasted. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using technology if we’ve consciously chosen to do it.

However, we owe it to ourselves to get out in the world and explore different possibilities — to be playful, curious, engaged and just to be.

Perhaps it would be easier to do that if we asked ourselves: How can I be more effective? Can I minimize what I am currently doing? How can I start using the time I’ve created in a way that will excite and inspire me?

【1】How did the author feel when she finished her work in advance?

    A.Guilty.

    B.Amazed.

    C.Stressed.

    D.Exhausted.

【2】What made the author think of Parkinson’s Law?

    A.Her working habit

    B.Her workload during that time

C.The change in her work efficiency

D.The time spent with her younger brother

【3】What does the author advise us to do to make more time for ourselves?

    A.Commit to more social activities.

B.Create a tight work schedule for ourselves.

C.Don’t waste time on technology for any reason.

D.Focus on the most important tasks, and ignore anything unimportant.

【4】What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article?

A.To explain what Parkinson’s Law is.

B.To introduce how to balance work and life.

C.To reflect on better time management.

D.To show the importance of accompanying family members.
