二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、In March 2020, a group of 16 strong elephants became international stars because of their starting long northern journey from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province.

The group did not harm any people or animals during their long march, but caused chaos on farms. In December, a baby elephant was born.

The wild group was seen on CCTV walking down the streets of the city at night, and they were also filmed constantly by more than a dozen drones (无人机)—which, the Chinese government said, were helping to minimize damage and keep the animals and people out of danger.

The group had a sudden attack on farms for food and water and even showed up at a care home, where they reached out their trunks into some of the rooms, making one elderly man hide under his bed. Meanwhile, reports said the damage caused to crops totaled more than £700,000.

In April 2021, seventeen animals were originally in the group, but the government said two returned home during the walk.

There were many guesses about the reasons for the migration (迁徙) of the elephants. Some people thought the elephants appeared to be especially attracted to com, fruit and other crops. Others supposed that the elephants’ leader might simply be lost in the rich tropical region, which is home to about 300 other Asian elephants. But, in fact, there was no exact scientific explanation.

In order not to do any harm to the species, farmers and others were told to exercise maximum control when they met with them, while the government had ordered people to stay inside and not use firecrackers or other techniques to frighten them away. Less force was being used to keep them out of the city, like parking cars and some equipment to block roads and using food drops to attract them away.

More than 410 emergency response police, lots of vehicles and 14 drones had been used to monitor the group. Locals were evacuated (疏散); short-time traffic control measures were carried out, and two tons of elephant food was put in place. Finally, this group of migrating elephants returned to their wild living areas safely under the protection of everyone.

【1】What can we know about the elephants on the move?

    A.They attacked an elderly man.

    B.They damaged a care home.

C.One of them gave birth to a baby elephant.

D.They harmed the animals on farms.

【2】Which of the following can best describe the reasons for the elephants’ migration?

    A.Unsolved.

    B.Convincing.

    C.Boring.

    D.Worrying.

【3】How did the government drive the elephants away?

    A.They scared them by techniques.

    B.They transported them by vehicles.

C.They guided them in a friendly way.

D.They made loud noise with firecrackers.

【4】What does the last paragraph intend to tell us?

A.The elephants caused a lot of damage.

B.The elephants enjoyed a high level of protection.

C.The government felt powerless to stop the elephants.

D.The government successfully sent the elephants to the zoo.

  • 22、Chinese space scientists have announced new discoveries made by Yutu-2, the first robot rover ever to explore the far side of the Moon, which permanently faces away from the Earth.

Commanding a rover on the Moon’s far side presents big challenges: the Earth is always out of sight, so radio commands and data have to be bounced back and forth using a special relay satellite orbiting in space beyond the Moon. The rover relies on solar power, so it has to shut down most of its operations for two weeks of every month during a long period of lunar night. Since rolling onto the Moon from its Change’s-4 lander in January 2019, Yutu-2 has been operating on the Moon for more than three years, making it the longest ever mission to explore the lunar surface.

One of the rover’s main findings is that the soil on the far side of the Moon is a lot stickier than on the near side — so it’s more likely to stick in Yutu-2’s wheels. That’s because on the far side rocks have had more continuous attacks from tiny bits of space dust that heat the rocks in the soil and make them stick together in pointed shapes.

Yutu-2’s journey through the lunar landscape is very slow — so far it has covered just over 1, 000 metres in three years. Along the way to either side of its path, it has spotted 88 small bowl-shaped craters (坑). Scientists think these are secondary impact craters, formed when bits of rocks were thrown out by a much bigger impact. A far larger one, called Zhinyu, was created when a big space rock hit the Moon.

As Yutu-2 continues to explore its surroundings, researchers are excited about what else it might discover. Sara Russell from London’s Natural History Museum told New Scientist magazine, “It’s like this whole new world to explore. We really have a lot to find out about the far side of the Moon; it’s really exciting.”

【1】What can we learn about Yutu-2?

A.It is a robot rover to explore the near side of the Moon.

B.It is completely shut down for two weeks of every month.

C.It has been on the longest ever mission to explore the lunar surface.

D.It’s easy to control on the Moon as the Earth is always out of sight.

【2】What made the soil on the far side of the Moon much stickier?

    A.Materials of the wheel.

    B.Rocks in pointed shapes.

    C.Attacks from space dust.

    D.Hits from big space rocks.

【3】What does the underlined word “one” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

    A.Rock.

    B.Crater.

    C.Hill

    D.Path.

【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Chang’e-4, a Moon Lander

    B.Chang’e-4’s Findings on the Moon

C.Yutu-2, the First Robot Rover on the Moon

D.Yutu-2’s Exploration of the Moon’s Far Side

  • 23、Flying the friendly skies has been, well, not quite as friendly these days. If you’re looking not just for the best prices, most convenient times and most direct routes, but also for an airline that will treat you right, you’ll want to check these latest rankings.

We got our hands on the 2017 Airline Satisfaction Study, released this month, from J.D.Power North America, a global research firm. Here’s what they discovered about the best airlines.

Alaska Airlines take home the top honor for the 10th time. Flying anywhere and Alaska Airlines is an option? Jump on that deal! Why? For the past decade, they’ve ranked the highest among traditional carriers, with the score of 765 on a 1, 000-- point scale. Delta took home the silver but only with a seven-- point gap from its competitor Alaska Airlines. American Airlines came in for the bronze.

For budget airlines, Southwest is second to none. Since the research was divided into parts, Southwest got an honor of its own in the “low﹣cost carrier” part, defeating Jet Blue Airways by four points. This small margin (差额) is significant, since Southwest officially ends Jet Blue Airways’ winning this category constantly for 11 years.

The full list of the top 10 airlines, either in traditional carriers or the budget ones are below:

    Best traditional airlines:

    • Alaska Airlines

    • Delta Airlines

    • American Airlines

    • United Airlines

    • Air Canada

    Best low-cost airlines:

    •Southwest Airlines

    • JetBlue Airways

    • United Airlines

    • WestJet

    • Frontier Airlines

【1】What is the score of Delta Airlines in the 2017 Airline Satisfaction Study?

    A.765.

    B.758.

    C.772.

    D.769.

【2】Which airline does well both in traditional and budget carriers?

    A.Alaska Airlines.

    B.Air Canada.

    C.United Airlines.

    D.Frontier Airlines.

【3】What do we know about Southwest Airlines?

    A.It narrowly beat JetBlue.

    B.It took the second place.

C.It is the best traditional airline.

    D.It is the safest airline.

  • 24、During the month of September, a dear friend of mine lost her husband suddenly in an accident. This accident was sudden and certainly unexpected. We sometimes take our love ones for granted, and we expect that they will be with us forever. However, as we all know, life does not work that way and sometimes we get a wakeup call that shocks us and realize how short life is.

In comforting her, I tried to imagine if I was in her shoes how I would feel. It was impossible to imagine what she was going through. What words do I say to help her? Sometimes words just cannot express our feelings. Sometimes our actions are much more meaningful than words. A hug can sometimes express more than our words will ever express. Sometimes, just being there to listen is more meaningful and helpful to people.

As I was leaving the funeral parlor(殡仪馆), I ran into Marilyn. She is one of those friends who is with you in the good times and is always by your side in the bed times. She has a sense of humor that makes everyone feel at ease. We chatted for a few moments, and then she asked me how my job was. I was telling her I was having a stressful week with my job. She listened to me, then without saying a word, she took her hands and placed them on my face, and said to me, "But at least you have a day."

Since that day, when I start feeling stressed, I remind myself of Marilyn's words --- but at least I have a day! Things could be a lot worse, but I am alive and I have a lot to be thankful for ----- so I shall not waste my days with stress and frustrations(挫折) ------- life is too short.

【1】The author was most likely to comfort her friend by ______ .

A.saying many kind words to her friend

B.imagining how sad her friend was

    C.listening to her friend sincerely

D.going through a lot of troubles

【2】According to the author, Marilyn was ______ .

    A.strong, honest and clever

    B.positive, helpful and humorous

    C.lucky, active and determined

    D.wealthy, noble and friendly

【3】By saying "but at least you have a day", Marilyn means that ______ .

A.a day is long enough or you

B.you will die soon after the day

C.life is really too short for all of us

D.you are still alive and should be grateful

    【4】Since the conversation, the author ______ .

    A.has thought highly of Marilyn

B.has valued her life quite a lot

    C.has met with many difficulties

    D.has enjoyed stress and troubles

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had been graced with.

Her last project of the term was called “Smile”. The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway, so I thought this would be a piece of cake literally.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my classmates and I went out to a popular restaurant on a freezing March morning. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my classmates did. I did not move an inch. An overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved. As I turned around, I smelled a horrible “dirty body” smell, and standing there behind me were two poor homeless men.

As I looked down at the shorter gentleman, close to me, he was smiling. His beautiful sky-blue eyes were full of light as he searched for acceptance. He said “Good day” as he counted the few coins he had been catching.

The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally deficient. I held my tears as I stood there with them.

The young lady behind the counter asked the shorter gentleman what they wanted. He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” That was all they could afford to be able to sit in the restaurant and warm up. They had to buy something. They just wanted to be warm. Then I really felt it, a compulsion so great that I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That was when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my reaction. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals.
