26、Howard Carter Finds King Tut's Tomb
Howard Carter was only 17 years old when he first went to Egypt in 1891. His father was quite successful as a portrait painter in England. Howard had a great deal of artistic talent, but he did not want to become a portrait painter like his father. He wanted adventure. With his father's help, he got a job with an archaeologist who was on his way to Egypt. This was an exciting opportunity for young Howard Carter.
In Egypt, Howard Carter worked as an artist for some of the best Egyptologists(埃及古 物学者)of his time. An Egyptologist is an archaeologist whose focus is learning about ancient Egypt. It was not long before Howard Carter was quite well known among Egyptologists, not only as an artist but also for his knowledge about ancient Egypt and archaeology.
Howard Carter wanted to hunt for King Tut's tomb, but that took men and money. Howard Carter finally got lucky. Lord Carnarvon was a very rich man. Lord Carnarvon allowed Howard Carter to hire 50 men to help him search for Tut's tomb.
In November 1922, by the light of a candle, Howard Carter cut a hole in a secret door. Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter carefully looked through the hole. What they saw through the peephole(窥视孔)) was amazing! They could not believe their eyes! The room was filled with treasures—couches shaped like animals, jeweled chests, vases, statues, and even chariots(二轮战车),all glittering with gold. It took months to move the treasures they found in the first room alone before they could open the doors in that room that led to other rooms! In other rooms, they found the chair King Tut had used as a small child.
The tomb was an incredible discovery, not only for its monetary value but also for its history. Historians learned so much about the people who lived over 3,000 years ago, about their culture and beliefs and daily life, from the objects found in King Tut's tomb. Howard Carter became world famous.

27、 Four years into my Ph.D. program, my hands started to go numb each night as I slept. I didn't think much of it at the time. Then one night, while sound asleep, I somehow mistook my numb arm for a snake. I threw myself out of bed and woke in a panic. I later discovered that this nighttime event wasn't simply a strange dream.
At that time, I was working toward my Ph.D. and training to be a clinical psychologist. There was never enough time to occupy myself fully in my world. The exams constantly worried and even scared me.
Later that year, while discussing a patient's symptoms with a neurologist(神经学家), I realized that my anxiety could be the direct cause of the numbness in my hands. There was a certain irony(讽刺) in that realization. I'd spent years learning about psychological tools for dealing with stress and anxiety. But until then it never occurred to me that I, too, was experiencing an abnormal level of stress and anxiety.
Now, I specialize in helping take a healthier approach to dealing with the pressures of academics.I've seen firsthand how many of them possess inner voices demanding perfection and telling them that the sacrifices are necessary for success.
My message to those I work with is that being overworked and stressed-out is unhealthy.Achievements and health can be both gained. So, when your inner alarm bells send you a warning signal-or when snakes attack in the night-don't hesitate; take action.
【1】What happened to the author?
A.A snake bit him when he was sleeping.
B.He frequently had strange dreams at night.

A.He now realizes academics is of no benefit.
B.A large number of people arc forced to be perfect.
C.Warning signals mean it's time to stop being over-stressed.
D.Achievements make it impossible for people to keep healthy.

She appreciates the little things in life like having cups of tea while sitting in her chair. But what she really loves to do is READ!【2】 Bless her heart!
Every Saturday I drive 70 kms to spend the day with her. I also bring my three kids. They runaround the home all day and bounce their balls in her driveway.
【3】 Laughing her head off, she is always laughing. I race around doing all kinds of housework. I make Grandma's bed and make sure she has enough sandwiches to keep in the fridge for later.
Every month Grandma gets a delivery from the Library which she looks forward to very much, two big containers full of books.【4】Most have been Pay It Forward books. Grandma smiles, saying that is a good thing. She can pass my books onto her friend who then passes them onto her friend. There have been a few times I purchased a couple of books when I didn’t receive any books from others and told Grandma they were given to me when I knew she needed books.【5】You see, Grandma respected money her whole life and she too raised three children alone, like me.
I’ve learnt so much from her. It feels so great just to be able to do something to be kind and to make someone else smile. She tells me she would be lost without me but the truth is I would be so lost without her.

29、 Many students have trouble staying focused in class. Some of them easily become absent-minded or fall asleep. As a result, they turn to study drugs in order to stay focused in school. 【1】
Get some sleep.
【2】 And it is important to stick with it. Having irregular sleep cycles can really affect concentration and physical well-being. Try to go to sleep at the same time every night and get eight to nine hours of sleep. Your body will thank you in the morning.
【3】
Eating first thing in the morning provides fresh energy throughout the day, and it doesn’t even have to be a big meal. Something as small as a bowl of oatmeal can make students more energetic and efficient for the rest of the day. And foods like peanut butter, berries, and whole grains have even shown to improve memory.
Turn off your phone.
An obvious way to maintain concentration is to avoid distractions that take your attention away.
【4】 When students need to channel their energy into studies, turning off the phone or even putting it on airplane mode is a good way to centralize their drive and keep distractions at bay.
Break a sweat.
Trying to concentrate in class will feel as challenging as a marathon if you’re not in good physical health. On the other hand, actually running a marathon may help boost your ability to concentrate, as exercise is shown to have many benefits for the brain. While you don’t necessarily have to run 26 miles before class or work, doing exercise in the morning can get your blood flowing towards your brain. 【5】
A. Do not skip breakfast.
B. Sit in the front if you sleep in class.
C. That helps in strengthening the mind.
D. Probably the biggest one is the smart phone.

Why your Password May Not Be As Safe As It Seems? Does “qaz2ws” strike you as a nice safe password? What about “adgjmptw”? An analysis has found them to be among the passwords that are most 【1】 used, which of course means they are not secure at all.
When ten million passwords were leaked on to the internet, they appeared to 【2】that attempts by internet security experts to make us improve our password strength had been successful, even if, in the specific case of the leaked passwords, they are also completely pointless.
While many of the passwords were still single words, such as “password”,there was also a clear attempt by many to make them harder to【3】. The problem was that people seemed to do so in the same way.
“Users are becoming slightly more 【4】what makes a password strong,” explained WP Engine, an internet company that performed the analysis. “For instance, adding a number or two at the end of a text phrase. That makes it better, right?”
But 【5】no. They found that almost half a million passwords did this and in 20 percent of those all people did was put the number “1” at the end.
Perhaps this is why some companies are now trying to move gradually beyond passwords. Yahoo! is giving users the option to 【6】 their mobile phone with an account, having a single use passwords texted to it each time they want to log on.
Although the serviced is voluntary, Dylan Casey an executive at Yahoo!,said that it was “the first step to【7】passwords”. He said it was a(n)【8】that it was increasingly hard for people to remember all the passwords they had. “I don’t think we, as an industry, have done a good enough job of putting ourselves in the shoes of the people using our products,” he said.
It would certainly be a more sensible strategy than same people’s improving upon “password” by using “password” or,“tran5p053d numb3r5 f0r 133tr3r5”.
“We are, for the most part,predictably【9】when it comes to choosing passwords, despite a decade of warnings from password strength checkers during sign-ups” said WP Engine. “We love taking a(n) 【10】, and so do password crackers.
