21、There’s much more to Sydney than just Bondi Beach and the Opera House. This shortlist of things to do and see in Sydney should point you in the right direction.
1. Explore Sydney’s hottest neighborhoods
Many of the big-ticket attractions can be found in or around the Circular Quay area, right by the harbor, in the city center. Here, you can get on ferries (渡轮) to faraway islands or go on a walking tour of the Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Museum of Contemporary Art and Museum of Sydney all nearby.

The 1920s State Theatre, in the central business district, is known to host international ballets, concerts and world-class orchestras. Travelers will find live music and comedy shows every night at Enmore Theatre; The Metro in the CBD; and the Factory Theatre in Marrickville. In Surry Hills, the Belvoir Street Theatre puts on award-winning shows year after year.

Taronga Zoo Sydney is an extremely popular zoo in Australia, which hosts more than 4,000 animals, including giraffes, kangaroos, koalas, chimps and more. 22、It was a warm spring evening. As I often do after a long day, I went straight to my backyard and did some work in my flower garden. I had only just walked a few steps on the patio (露台) when I suddenly felt a horrifying blow to the right side of my neck. Totally confused, I reached up and, to my shock and horror, realized that I had been shot — with an arrow.
I grabbed the arrow with a death grip where it had pierced my neck and ran inside, screaming my husband’s name. Ed ran to me and called an ambulance. I lay on the couch and prayed. I didn’t know if there was any way I could survive.
The arrow had come from a young man practising with a hunting bow in his backyard. Luckily, he was using a practice arrow. An arrow for hunting would have killed me.
At the hospital, I tried hard to reassure my family and friends. I kept telling them I was fine, but the looks on their faces told me that they weren’t buying it. After a CT scan, the doctors and nurses began telling me how lucky I was. The arrow had gone between the carotid artery and the jugular vein. There was no bleeding at all. Although I didn’t realize how incredible this was, I began arguing with them that I wasn’t “lucky“, I was “blessed”. Someone told my son there was a post on the site texasbowhunter.com asking for prayers for me. It turns out a friend had posted the prayer request on that website.
The morning after my two-hour surgery to remove the arrow, the surgeon came in my room. He revealed that I had a brain tumour and the surgery had to be done. I remember going a bit numb but thinking, God works in mysterious ways. The brain surgery was successful and in less than a week I was back home.
Nothing eventful happened for a couple of years. After an MRI in 2015, I was told that there was still no sign of a tumour growing back. Had it not been for that arrow, I would have died from a brain tumour. And honestly, the arrow should have killed me. But it didn’t.
Coincidences? Luck? I think not. The gentleman who wrote the last comment on the prayer-request thread on texasbowhunter.com summed it up in just two words. He simply wrote, “Amazing grace”.

23、Are you an optimist? Do you look at your glass and see it as half full? Do you believe that every cloud has a silver lining and that things generally turn out for the best? Do you believe that if something is meant to be, it will be? If you reply “yes” to all of these questions, then you are an optimist. You probably are enthusiastic, cheerful and outgoing. You may be successful at work and in love.
But you may be misguided because things don't turn out for the best. You may believe that when on door closes another one opens(for example, you may fail to obtain a new job; another chance will come around soon). Wrong. When one door closes, another door slams(砰然关上)in your face. That's bitter reality.
Now a book has been published which confirms what pessimists(悲观者)have suspected all along. it's called The Positive Power of Defensive Pessimism. Its author argues that defensive pessimism can lead to positive results. Defensive pessimism is a strategy used to manage fear, anxiety and worry. Defensive pessimists prepare for the tings by setting low outcomes for themselves. They carefully consider everything that may go wrong and plan for ways to handle these problems. And this gives them a sense of control. Lawrence Sanno, a psychology professor, says, “What's interesting about defensive pessimists is that they tend to be very successful people, so their low opinion of the situation's outcomes is not realistic. They use it to motivate themselves to perform better.”
So far,so good. This is not rocket science. Defensive pessimists prepare carefully and consider what might go wrong, whether at work, on date or even in a sports game. It makes sense to have a back-up plan. There are many sayings in English urging caution. For example, “Don't put all your eggs in one basket.”
And “Don't count your chickens until they hatch.” To have a confident and optimistic approach to life's problems is good. But listen to what Woody Alien, the American comedian says ,”Confidence is what you have before you understand the problem.”
There are pros and cons to being an optimist and a pessimist. Don't feel bad if you see the glass half empty. You are a realist But lighten up and hook up with someone who sees the same glass half full.

【4】The writer would probably describe himself as ______.

24、When did you last write a letter? Properly write one — by hand? In a digital world, where sending a text or email is far more convenient than using snail mail, is the writing on the wall for traditional pen and paper? Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits, so maybe it’s not time to ditch your ballpoint or fountain pen yet.
These days, when people request things in writing, a typed, electronic document will be accepted. Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, edited, copied and sent via email. But crafting a handwritten document is unique: it requires planning and thought, and, as well as practising your handwriting, it helps you to remember spelling and punctuation.
Some experts believe your brain benefits from using old-fashioned pen and paper. This is particularly relevant for students, where typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the “tactile feedback (触觉反馈)” to the brain that contact between pen and paper does. BBC Worklife website quotes Hetty Roessingh from the University of Calgary, who says that taking notes by hand involves cognitive engagement in summarising, paraphrasing, organising, concept and vocabulary mapping. Others agree that handwriting may boost fine motor skills in your hands and fingers.
There are everyday benefits of using pen and paper too. Scribbling (匆忙书写) notes, shopping lists or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful, quick and portable. But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most impact. Pen pal writer Katherine Moller told the BBC, “In a world where it is so easy to hop online to email or to send a fast text, it is so personal and so precious to know someone chose to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you.”
So, while digital skills remain important, don’t write off your pens and pencils yet — especially if your smartphone, tablet or laptop runs out of power.

【3】What did Katherine Moller suggest in Para 4?
