二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、From Monday until Friday most people are busy working or studying, but in the evenings and on weekends they are free to relax (放松) and enjoy themselves. Some watch TV or go to the movies; others take part in sports. It depends on individual interests. There are many different ways to spend our spare time.

Almost everyone has some kinds of hobbies. It may be anything from collecting stamps to making model airplanes. Some hobbies are very expensive, but others don’t cost anything at all. Some collections are worth a lot of money; others are valuable only to their owners.

I know a man who has a coin collection worth several thousand dollars. A short time ago he bought a rare (稀有的) fifty cent piece worth £250! He was very happy about his buying and thought the price was reasonable (合理的). On the other hand, my youngest brother collects matchboxes. He has almost 600 of them but I doubt (怀疑) if they are worth any money. However, to my brother they are very valuable. Nothing makes him happier than to find a new matchbox for his collection.

That’s what a hobby means, I guess. It is something we like to do in our spare time simply for the fun of it. The value in dollars is not important, but the pleasure it gives us is.

  • 27、When I was a boy growing up in New Jersey in the 1960s, we had a milkman delivering milk to our doorstep. His name was Mr. Basille. He wore a white cap and drove a white truck. As a 5-year-old boy, I couldn’t take my eyes off the coin changer fixed to his belt. He noticed this one day during a delivery and gave me a quarter out of his coin changer.

Of course, he delivered more than milk. There was cheese, eggs and so on. If we needed to change our order, my mother would pen a note—“Please add a bottle of buttermilk next delivery”—and place it in the box along with the empty bottles. And then, the buttermilk would magically (魔术般) appear.

All of this was about more than convenience. There existed a close relationship between families and their milkmen. Mr. Basille even had a key to our house, for those times when it was so cold outside that we put the box indoors, so that the milk wouldn’t freeze. And I remember Mr. Basille from time to time taking a break at our kitchen table, having a cup of tea and telling stories about his delivery.

There is sadly no home milk delivery today. Big companies allowed the production of cheaper milk, thus making it difficult for milkmen to compete. Besides, milk is for sale everywhere, and it may just not have been practical to have a delivery service.

Recently, an old milk box in the countryside I saw brought back my childhood memories, I took it home and planted it on the back porch (门廊). Every so often my son’s friends will ask what it is. So I start telling stories of my boyhood, and of the milkman who brought us friendship along with his milk.

【1】Mr. Basille gave the boy a quarter out of his coin changer to ___________.

    A.show his magical power

    B.pay for the delivery

    C.satisfy his curiosity

    D.please his mother

【2】What can be inferred from the fact that the milkman had the key to the boy’s house?

A.He wanted to have tea there.

    B.He was a respectable person.

C.He was treated as a family member.

D.He was fully trusted by the family.

【3】Why does home milk delivery no longer exist?

A.Nobody wants to be a milkman now.

B.It has been driven out of the market.

    C.Its service is getting poor.

D.It is not allowed by law.

  • 28、   Some families choose to take extravagant(奢侈的) vacations, such as to the Grand Canyon. However, my favorite family "vacation"was different. Nine years ago, my parents made a plan to build the home of their dreams in the neighborhood.

Home Number I gradually turned into the management office for building Home Number 2. As Home Number 2 began to take shape, it drew our attention and our primary home became the place where we slept only. The three of us children worked and became soon-to-be-skilled workers. I quickly learned that personalities are readily displayed when we painted a wall. Some repeated his demand, refusing others to enter the area. Others systematically painted the wall, working from top to bottom in an organized fashion. And one might lose interest quickly and drew smiley faces and signed his name on the wall.

Of course, the journey doesn't come without a few lessons learned. I came to understand that paint would never be removed from my clothes no matter how many times I washed it. We learned other important lessons when my dad wanted to shingle(用瓦片覆盖) a roof in the air: Safety is indeed important, and sometimes money is well spent in the employment(雇用) of professional.

And a Mother's Day dinner served on a table could actually taste far better at the end of a long day's work than the everyday meals we remembered back at Home Number 1. Most importantly, I learned that my family can understand each other's' barks. When we finally“arrived after28 months, the“place of interest" we now call home was better than any other places, and our family grew closer because of it.

1What makes the author's family vacation different from others'?

A.The way of spending the vacation.

B.The cost of spending the vacati

C.The length of time they spent on vacation.

3What did the author learn when seeing his father working in the air?

A.How hard the job was! B.His father's professional level.

C.The value of building the home. D.The need to employ a professional.

4What can be the best title for this text?

    A.Creating close family

    B.Life lessons I learned from a trip

    C.A different house---building vacation

D.Why a family vacation is important

  • 29、My family, my wife, Joan, our two teenagers Hannah and Joseph, and I, live in Atlanta with our two dogs.

Ten years ago, we moved into our dream house, a very big three-story home. It was a beautiful place, but as our children grew up, our sense of togetherness (团结) began to disappear slowly. In the big house, we sometimes seemed to be strangers to each other.

One day when Hannah was 14, she became upset about the difference between the world’s haves and the have-nots. She expected us to be “a family that makes a difference in the world, even if it’s a small difference. ” Joan asked her, “What are you willing to sacrifice? Your house? Your room? ” Hannah said yes to both. After talking it over as a family, we decided to sell our house and move to one that was half its size and price and donate (捐赠) the difference to those in need.

After a lot of research, we chose the Hunger Project, a US-based organization. It works with villagers in Africa, Asia and South America and helps them fight against poverty (贫穷). Our money went to pay for building two centers. Each has a meeting place, a bank and a health clinic (诊所). Together, the centers would serve more than 20 villages in eastern Ghana. We also traveled to meet the villagers and were blown away by their hard work and warmth.

To be honest, we were a little worried at first. Would we regard the new home as being too small for us? Or would we think we had given up too much? Two years later, I can tell you: It’s the best move we have ever made. While we worked together on our family project, we became much closer. As Hannah said the other day, “We learned how to really trust each other. ”

【1】After they moved into a large house, the author’s family ______.

A.were not as close as before

    B.wanted an even larger house

    C.often went travelling together

D.often let strangers share their spare rooms

    D.Build up.

【3】Why did the author’s family sell their big house?

    A.To go abroad.

    B.To help the poor.

    C.To treat Hannah’s illness.

D.To save money for the future.
