China isn't well known for its science fiction films, but recently a new film called The Wandering Earth has become a great success. It has earned over $697 million worldwide. It tells an amazing story of the Earth in danger, along with exciting scenes of spaceships and outer space.

The Wandering Earth is based on a story by Liu Cixin. In the story, the sun was dying out, people all around the world worked together to move Earth out of the solar system and sail Earth to a new star system. The film began with the early life of a young boy who was born just after the project started. The engineers pushed Earth away and built underground cities that were vast enough for all the other humans to live in. Yet the 2500 years' journey came with all kinds of dangers. In order to save the humans, a group of young people came out and fought hard for the planet.

China is playing an increasingly important part in the film industry. Its growing middle class has seen the rise of film market across the country, and Chinese viewers have become an important part of film industry. Hollywood Projects like Iron Man 3 specifically filmed more scenes in China for its market. Chinese film industry is keeping growing. Just as Americans want to get into the Chinese market, Chinese filmmakers are looking for the way to the international market.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Wandering Earth is China's "first space" film. Chinese science fiction writer, Anna Wu, says science fiction "is a new challenge for the Chinese film industry." Some Chinese filmmakers have achieved a great success at this kind of film, but most of them still have a long way to go.

Still, Wu notes that within China, "Not all the science fiction films have had success. It still takes time to accept science fictions, and that with the development of our country, people are getting busier, wealthier and more stressed," which creates a perfect environment for this new kind of film and television. The Wandering Earth, she says, is a good example. "I also care about the money it earns, which will affect the future of Chinese science fiction films."

  • 25、   Sir Henry and Captain Good were exhausted and weak from loss of blood.

I, too, was more tired than I could remember ever being. We rested. Therefore, for many days before we even thought about the future. Then, when we were strong enough to travel again, I said to Ignosi, "You promised me diamonds if I helped you to become king.”

“I did,” he said. “I will keep my promise. But, only Gagool knows where to find them, and I must kill her and the other witches.”

“There has been enough killing, ” I said. “Tell the old woman that if she will lead us to the diamonds, you will spare her life.”

Ignosi thought about this for a long time, and then he said, “I will speak to the woman and tell you what she says.”

Ignosi was as good as his words, and he persuaded Gagool to guide us to the diamonds. Three days later, Sir Henry, Captain Good, Foulata--the girl who owed her life to Captain Good and Infadoos were climbing the mountains called the Three Witches. Some warriors carried Gagool. She screamed and cursed continuously, but she knew where the diamonds were. And at last, we came to a deep hole in the ground. It had sloping sides and was not a natural hole. It was the work of miners.

Huge statues guarded the mine. I remembered that King Solomon worshipped some strange gods. “Could these be statues of those gods? ” I asked Sir Henry, who knew much about ancient history.

“It is possible,” he said. “The Phoenicians were great merchants and builders. They built King Solomon’s Temple. Perhaps they dug this mine for him.”

“We want to go into the mine, ” I told Gagool.

“It is the Place of Death,” she said, “but if you want to enter, then I will lead the way.”

1Why were Sir Henry and Captain Good weak?

A.Because they walk for a long time. B.Because they lost much blood.

C.Because they felt very hungry. D.Because they didn’t sleep well.

2What did Ignosi promise me to do?

A.To give me some food. B.To be the king .

C.To help me find the diamonds. D.To kill Gagool.

3Why did Ignosi say that he wanted to kill Gagool ?

A.Because she had told King Wala to kill him. B.Because she was a witch.

C.Because she knew where the diamonds were. D.Because she would not help him.

4What did Sir Henry and I think the statues at the mine entrance might represent?

    A.Phoenicians. B.Warriors. C.King Solomon. D.Gods.

5Where did Gagool tell the travelers that the tunnel at the end of the big cave led to?

A.The Palace of Life. B.The Place of Death.

    C.Solomon’s Great Road. D.King Solomon’s Mines.

  • 26、   Sports were historically thought as a boys’ activity. Since a federal(联邦法律) law was passed in 1972, schools have offered many sports for girls. However, there is still unfairness between boys and girls. For example, a school may have a football team only for boys, but a volleyball team only for girls. So can girls play boys’ sports on a boys’ team? There are different opinions among people.

Some people strongly against girls playing boys’ sports on a boys’ team. They often say it could be dangerous for girls. On average, girls are shorter and weigh less than boys, which give girls an unfair disadvantage. So during the game, girls could be injured. Another worry is that girls may be nervous with boys on the team. Then they may not play well. Meanwhile, some boys want to have their own space. They don’t want to feel uncomfortable with girls.

However, some other people hold an opposite view. They reply that there are some small and light boys on a boys’ team, too. Girls can play the roles just like these boys. Although it may be unfair for girls to compete with boys in boys’ games, girls who are willing to take the risk should be allowed to have a try. Some people also point out that if boys and girls can cooperate(合作) well on a team, they can learn from each other and help each other.

No matter what the different opinions are, there is no doubt that both boys and girls are excited about playing sports. Whether or not girls can play boys’ sports on a boys’ team still needs further consideration.

1What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Sports are historically played by boys.

B.There is unfairness between boys and girls.

C.Different opinions on girls playing boys’ sports on a boys’ team.

D.Boys and girls can learn from each other when playing sports together.

2The underlined phrase “on average” in Paragraph 2 probably means _______.

    A.一定地 B.平均地 C.可能地 D.难以避免地

3Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Boys think it’s good to have girls on their sports team.

B.Girls are shorter and lighter than boys on average.

C.Girls are not afraid to compete with boys.

D.Boys and girls have already played on the same team in some schools.

4We can infer(推测) from the passage that _______.

A.Only boys are excited about playing sports.

B.Boys and girls can’t play the same sports together.

C.It is clear that girls are not able to compete with boys.

D.We still can’t decide whether girls can play boys’ sports on a boys’ team.

  • 27、All over the world, thousands of animals are used for wildlife tourism. People travel to watch monkey shows, hug baby tigers and swim with dolphins. It might look like fun, but there are reports that animals are hurt now and again. The World Animal Protection (WAP) says that up to 550,000 wild animals are exposed (暴露) to ill treatment around the world. In Cambodia, for example, it’s been reported that elephants have died after carrying tourists for long in hot weather.
