四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Among various programs, TV talk shows have covered all space on daytime television. But no two shows are more opposite, while at the same time standing out above the rest, are the Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey shows.

Jerry Springer could easily be considered the king of "rubbish talk". The topics on his show are as surprising as can be. For example, the show takes the ever-common talk show titles of love, sex, cheating, and hate, to a different level. Clearly, the Jerry Springer show is about the dark side of society, yet people are willing to eat up the troubles of other people's lives.

Like Jerry Springer, Oprah Winfrey takes the TV talk show to its top. But Oprah goes in the opposite direction. The show is mainly about the improvement of society and different quality of life. Topics are from teaching your children lessons, managing your work week, to getting to know your neighbors.

Compared to Oprah, the Jerry Springer show looks like poisonous waste being poured into society. Jerry ends every show with a "final word". He makes a small speech about the general idea of the show. Hopefully, this is the part where most people will learn something very valuable.

Clean as it is, the Oprah show is not for everyone. The show's main audience are middle-class Americans. Most of the people have the time, money and ability to deal with life's tough problems.

Jerry Springer, on the other hand, has more of a connection with the young adults of society. These are people around 20 years old whose main troubles in life include love, relationship, sex , money and drugs. They are the ones who see some value and lessons to be learned throung the talk shows.

1Compared with other TV talk shows, both the Jerry Springer and the Oprah Winfrey shows are ________.

    A. more interesting   B. unusually popular

    C. more detailed   D. more formal

2Though the social problems Jerry Springer talks about appear unpleasant, people who watch the shows ________.

    A. show disbelief in them   B. are ready to face the problems

    C. remain cold to them   D. are willing to get away from them

3Which of the following is likely to be a topic of the Oprah Winfrey show?

    A. A new type of robot.   B. National hatred (憎恨).

    C. Family income planning.   D. Street accident.

4We can learn from the passage that the two talk shows _________________.

    A. have become the only one of its kind   B. shows the weakness in human nature

    C. appear at different times of the day   D. attract different people

  • 25、   Have you ever heard of character amnesia? Amnesia refers to a condition where someone loses all or most of his or her memory. It may be too strong a word to use. With character amnesia, however, it means people have forgotten to put the correct stroke (笔画) in a character or have forgotten the character completely.

Character amnesia is partly caused by the popularity of electronic communication. Today, most people write using computers or other electronic devices. These devices all have input software. You can easily type in a character even if you don't know how to form it.

Back in 2013, CCTV held an interesting TV contest. Contestants were given a word and then asked to write it on a screen. Some of them had a hard time writing such common words as “癞蛤蟆” and “打喷嚏”. The audience at home were encouraged to try writing these words at the same time. The contest showed how widespread character amnesia had become. It encouraged much discussion. The audience felt surprised. For teachers, however, it was just old news.

Su Yunsheng has taught Chinese for more than twenty years. She says, “In recent years, character amnesia has become more and more common among students. I often see students write words incorrectly. The popularity of electronic devices is a major factor.” Su is not the only one complaining, Many experts think not being able to write characters correctly threatens China's cultural heritage.

Written Chinese requires a good memory and a lot of hard work. But Chinese characters are a great cultural achievement. Chinese people should be proud of it. It will be a pity if we lose that heritage someday. The threat is nothing to sneeze at!

1According to the article, people with character amnesia ________.

    A.cannot read or write

B.have lost all or most of their memory

C.don't know how to write some characters correctly

D.cannot write using computers or other electronic devices

2In the 2013 CCTV contest, contestants were asked to ________.

    A.write some common Chinese words

    B.pronounce some common Chinese words

C.type in some difficult words using keyboards

D.show how widespread character amnesia had become

3Which of the following statements about Su Yunsheng is NOT true?

A.She asks her students not to write using computers.

B.She has been teaching Chinese for more than 20 years.

C.She has seen many students suffer from character amnesia.

D.She thinks character amnesia is caused by the popularity of electronic devices.

4By writing this article, the writer probably wanted to________ .

A.explore the causes of character amnesia

B.advise people not to use computers too often

C.ask people to pay attention to the threat of character amnesia

D.tell readers the difference between amnesia and character amnesia

  • 26、“Without music, life would be a mistake,” famous German philosopher(哲学家)Friendrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).

For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus(关注)on subjects that are tested more often.

However, learning music is useful in many ways.

When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.

Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck did well in playing the piano.

1Some schools in the US cut music classes, because ______.

    A. they were too difficult to learn   B. students in the US weren’t interested in music

    C. the schools wanted to control budgets   D. there weren’t enough music teachers in the US

2In Paragraph 2, what does the underlined word “them” refer to(指代)?

    A. Fired teachers.   B. Public schools.   C. Parents in Chicago.   D. Students in Chicago.

3What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4?

    A. Playing the piano needs people to see music notes.

    B. Playing the piano needs people to use fingers to make sounds.

    C. Decoding music notes is needed while we are playing music.

    D. Different abilities are needed to work together while we are playing music.

4How many scientists who are good at playing music are mentioned in this passage?

    A. One.   B. Two.   C. Three.   D. Four.

5What’s the writer’s opinion according to this passage?

    A. Music is as simple as it looks.   B. Music classes should be cut in some schools.

    C. Music is a big part of our lives.   D. Music isn’t a very important life skill for us.
