二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Christmas is a time for eating great food, giving and receiving presents, and most importantly spending time with your family watching some classic Christmas movies.

    The Grinch (2000)

This is a Christmas must-watch and one of Jim Carrey's best performances. It was also originally a nursery tale book written by Dr Seuss. It's the story of a green monster who wants to ruin Christmas but who in the end discovers the power of love and generosity. I promise it's a great film with plenty of laughs along the way.

    Love Actually (2003)

While this is not a personal favourite of mine, people in the UK absolutely love this film. It has many featuring actors and actresses. It might be a little difficult to follow as there are complex plots, so I recommend watching a translated version or enabling subtitles (字幕) in your native language. However, the heart-warming elements of the film make it worth watching.

    Home Alone (1990)

This amusing masterwork is one of my favourite films of all time. It tells the story of a boy, Kevin, who is left alone in his house when his large family forgets to take him on vacation with them. While the families are away, burglars try to rob the house and Kevin must protect his home by setting traps. The trips, falls and traps will have you laughing out loud as you watch a 10-year-old boy beat two grown men.

    Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

You can't have Christmas in an English-speaking country without watching this movie. It's not funny like Home Alone or The Grinch, but it is incredibly touching. It's about a man who claims to be Santa, but nobody believes him except a lawyer and a little girl. The story-line may seem a little childish but you can enjoy it at any age.

1Which film is adapted from a fairy tale?

    A. The Grinch.

    B. Home Alone.

    C. Love Actually.

    D. Miracle on 34th Street.

2What is Home Alone mainly about?

    A. An unsuccessful family vacation.

    B. A boy protecting home by himself.

    C. A terrible suffering to a little boy.

    D. A 10-year-old boy's practical jokes.

3Why is Miracle on 34th Street so popular?

    A. Owing to its moving plots.

    B. Because of its funny story.

    C. Due to its childish storyline.

    D. For its famous actors and actresses.

  • 22、The next time you find yourself in nature, away from the crowded urban environment, take a deep breath of the fresh and clean air. That refreshing breath is made possible by the trees around you.

Today, our cars and machines fill the air with carbon emissions. But scientists imagine a future, where vehicles will clean the air as efficiently as trees do. Euro News reports that the electric car, designed by Dutch students at the Eindhoven University of Technology, is capable of removing a small amount of carbon from the air.

The car’s sporty frame is nearly entirely composed of recycled plastics run through a 3D-printer and the engine is powered by an electric lithium-ion (锂离子) battery. By using 3D printing, the team could produce parts in the exact shape needed, with very little waste. Since nearly 2 billion tires end up in the trash yearly, the students also teamed up with Black Bear Carbon to source recycled black carbon for the tires. Moreover, solar panels fitted to the car’s roof allow it to act as an external solar power source for a house.

According to Reuters, electric vehicles produce near-zero CO2 emissions as they drive. The drawback of these batteries, however, is that the process needed to create the battery cells for electric cars is still highly polluting. To offset the harmful effect of creating the lithium-ion batteries, the team fitted the car with two filters (过滤器), which can capture (捕获) two kilograms of CO2 every 18,000 miles or so. That might not sound like a lot, but the team is confident they can make sure the two filters will capture more CO2.

The team is now on tour in the US to promote their model, which they call ZEM for Zero-Emission Mobility, and to share their vision for the future. They picture electric car charging stations also fitted with the capacity to empty CO2. “Our end goal is to create a more sustainable future,” said Jens Lahaijie, a member of the team that produced the car.

【1】What can we know about the electric car?

    A.It is a completely 3D printed product.

    B.Its design is environmentally-friendly.

C.It is still dependent on traditional fuels.

D.Its task is to protect trees in urban areas.

【2】What will the Dutch students do with their electric car?

A.Equip it with more filters and solar panels.

B.Increase its driving speed in a short time.

C.Reduce its dependence on lithium-ion batteries.

D.Improve its filters’ capability of capturing CO2.

【3】What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.The electric car hasn’t come to market in the US.

B.Electric car charging stations are common.

C.The future of electric cars turns out uncertain.

D.The electric car model has won great favor.

【4】Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.Carbon Capture Technology Is Used

B.Eco-friendly Cars Are in Great Need

C.An Electric Car Helps to Clean the Air

D.A Sustainable Future Is Shared Together

  • 24、I was just a boy. And he was just my dad.

It was the 1950s. We were a small family. My parents were attentive(贴心的), caring and devoted to one another. Then suddenly, when I was 9, half of my safe and comfortable world disappeared. Dad died that morning. It was a heart attack.

A child wants to know why such things should happen. For a child, however, there can be no satisfying answers. But with adulthood, I gradually began to learn more about my dad.

He had grown up in a large family on the family farm. When war broke out in 1939, he joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was 31. He was sent overseas to southern England, where Canadian soldiers continued training while waiting for a call to action. During that time, he used his occasional(偶尔的)weeklong leaves to visit Scotland. There he met my mother, and they married in April 1942. I remember that Dad often had to go up to the veteran's(退伍军人的)hospital in Winnipeg each year. Something about his heart.

Many years later, I became more curious about his wartime and postwar experience, hoping it would help me know who he was. I sent a request to the National Archives for his postwar medical records. One day I came home from work to find a thick package at my door. It was more than 800 pages of my dad's medical records. I was overwhelmed.

So here was my dad's story, which I hadn't fully known.

This was the dad who survived years of cold conditions and lack of food in a prisoner-of-war camp in Poland. This was the dad who survived death marches(行军)in the cold winter of 1945, as the Germans paraded(游街示众)their POWs(战俘)around the countryside. This was the dad who spent 391 days in the hospital after the war. It was why he died at 50, leaving his wife and two sons behind.

The child in me could never understand why he would leave me. The adult could now forgive him for having done so. But I can't forgive war itself for the losses it causes, not only on the men and women who actively serve but on the generations yet to be born.

【1】What can we learn about the author's father?

A.He opposed war in all forms.

    B.He married before going overseas.

C.He had to check his heart regularly after the war.

D.He was forced to join the army at 31.

【2】How did the author feel after reading the medical records?

    A.Surprised and annoyed.

    B.Confused and worried.

    C.Inspired and relieved.

    D.Shocked and heartbroken.

【3】Why did the author forgive his father at last?

A.He was persuaded by his brother to do so.

B.He understood what his father had gone through.

C.He remembered his father's care for him.

D.He experienced the same pain as his father had.

【4】What does the author want to convey from the article?

    A.Soldiers deserve our respect.

    B.A strong body means everything.

C.War brings disastrous pain for generations.

D.A father's love is important for a family.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My ex-husband had made some very bad choices in his life, and I did not want my children to pay for them all their lives, so the boys and I talked and we decided to move. We moved 2,700 miles from home. We had a small car that pulled a small U-haul over the Rocky Mountains. I could barely read a map (my 8-year-old reads them great, I learned).

We arrived in our new town three days later, and found an apartment. I started the boys in their new school and went to our new home to unload the U-haul. I had brought all the clothes, dishes, blankets and toys that I could fit in the U-haul. As I began unloading, a lady whom I had briefly met the day before was driving down the road and she stopped to help me unload and carry everything up the three flights of stairs. After getting moved in, I was blessed two days later when I found a job.

Things were going great. The boys went to the Boys & Girls Club after school, and I would pick them up after work. In December, two months after moving, the manager of the Boys & Girls Club called me and said that there was a group of people who wanted to choose a family for Christmas and would I mind if they chose our family. My first thought was no, because we had all the love we needed for the holidays, but then he said that my children had told him that there was no furniture in the house, and this group had a lot of used furniture, and that the boys and I would be making them very happy. So I agreed.

They called me and asked what the boys wanted for Christmas and I told them that anything would be appreciated, and I told them what their favorite toys were.

    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

They showed up on December 23.
