四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   What’s going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet? Will computers become smarter than us? Not likely. But here are some things that scientists say are most likely to happen in 10—30 years from now, according to the BBC.

    Bionic(仿生的)eyes

They are no longer something only in a science fiction movie. People who are blind may have a chance to see things clearly—by wearing bionic eyes.

A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send information to the mind. Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. A bionic eye with very clear pictures could be just in a few years away.

    Digital money

We used to pay with cash for everything we bought. Now when we use a Wechat Pay or Alipay to shop, money is spent without us seeing it. That means we are already using digital money. People only need to take a mobile phone wherever they go. Using these ways is much easier than searching our pockets for change. It is also safer than carrying a lot of cash.

It’s reported that people in Sweden completely stopped using cash last year, and the US might be next.

    Self—driving cars

Unlike a human driver, a self—driving car won’t be influenced by a phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors(探测器)and cameras on the car would allow it to follow the rules of the road and keep a safe space from other cars. This would greatly make the number of road accidents smaller. You could even take a rest while the car drives itself. In the future, driverless cars would be widely accepted.

【1】Bionic eyes send information to the ________.

    A.mind

    B.camera

    C.computer

    D.heart

【2】From the report, we can learn some information about ________.

    A.industry and farming

    B.traffic and journey

    C.science and technology

    D.culture and art

【3】This passage tells us that ________.

A.bionic eyes only appear in the science fiction films

B.the blind wearing bionic eyes may see clearly in the future

C.self-driving cars will be influenced by something outside

D.there will be no accident at all if self-driving cars are used

  • 26、   “I do hope that by writing about their stories , I'm helping things change for the better . " Li Xueqing, a China Daily journalist , based in New York City.

They're neither medical workers in close contact with the novel coronavirus nor government officials who receive the latest updates of the situation - yet they’re keeping us informed of the development of the epidemic . They are the media , and their eyes are far-seeing.

Zhu Xingxin is one such member of the media : a photographer with China Daily . He visited Tongji Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan on Feb 3 to report on the lives of medical workers.

Before entering the isolation ward ( 隔离病房) , Zhu had to put on protective gear ( ) like the doctors : a protective suit , a surgical mask ,goggles (  目镜 ) , disposable ( 一次性 ) gloves and shoe covers. He described it as " stuffy (闷热的)” with all the layers on .“I felt anoxi(  缺氧的 ) under the masks ,  ”he wrote on China Daily . " So I lowered my voice and slowed down my motions trying to make myself feel better.

The eyes of the media are not just here to see, but also to scrutinize.

On Feb 9, for example , a bus in Wuhan carrying severely ill patients was caught in traffic with no one guiding them and no hospitals claiming them . The incident was witnessed by Global Times journalists and was soon reported online. It ended with all the patients being properly settled in hospitals and officials in charge being held responsible . But it's possible that without journalists this incident would never have been exposed.

Li Xueqing , a China Daily journalist , based in New York City , is also aware of the media's role as a watchdog ( 监督者 ) . She wrote a story last month about a group of Wuhan University alumni ( ) in New York City who donated medical equipment to hospitals in Wuhan . She was impressed by how they managed to collect such a large amount of supplies and build an international shipping pathway in such a short time . Yet she was also disturbed by how all the complex (  )paperwork and bureaucratic (官僚主义的 ) procedures added to their already heavy workload.

" I do hope that by writing about their stories , I'm helping things change for the better , said Li.

Indeed , the media is like a pair of eyes watching out for us as they report on the world's most important news.

In India, there are hundreds of laughter clubs. The people in these clubs get together every morning. First, they stretch their hands above their heads. Then, they pretend (假装) to laugh. Soon everyone is laughing naturally. People say that they feel good after laughing together.

Scientists believe that laughter is good for us. Why? For one thing, laughter is good exercise. When you laugh, you exercise muscles (肌肉) in your body. Scientists say that one hundred laughs equal ten minutes of running. When you laugh, you also breathe deeply. This helps you relax. That is good for you, too.
