四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you ever heard the phrase “You never get a second chance to make a first impression?” It may sound like an unusual suggestion, but it is true---the first impression someone has of you when meeting you for the first time will probably influence how that person treats you or reacts to you in the future.

What is even interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create the first impression in about three seconds. When you meet someone for the first time, by the time you have stated your name or shaken hands, the other person has already formed an opinion about the kind of person you are.

So how do you make a good first impression? All things grown-ups tell you---such as being polite and being well-dressed----are very important. However, the most important tool for making a good first impression is your face. Smiling, being responsive, and looking like you are happy will almost always leave positive impression on people, especially those who do not know you. Most people, generally speaking, are ready to smile back when they are smiled at.

Furthermore, smiling and being in a positive mood helps you to know and get a better understanding of new things. This means that you can possibly be friendlier to people you do not know and be more creative and able to solve problems more quickly. So if you ever need a reason to be happy, think about the wonderful people you might meet-and impress them with a cheerful smile.

【1】The first impression someone has of you will probably influence how that person         .

A.treats you or reacts to you

    B.likes you

    A.Shaking hands.

    B.Stating your name.

    C.Dressing nicely.

    D.Wearing a smile.

【3】What can be learned from the last paragraph?

    A.Friendliness helps solve problems.

B.Being positive helps you find a way out.

C.There are many reasons to be happy.

D.Thinking of great people cheers you up.

【4】What would be the best title for the text?

    B.Smiling Makes the First Impression

    C.Manners Leave Deep Impressions

    D.Impressions Decides Who You Are

  • 25、   I arrived in the UK last weekend to learn English. So far I have already made a few friends and had some traditional English food there. But after having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes, I thought none could be more delicious than Chinese food, especially my favorite-huoguo. You cannot imagine how excited I was when I got to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell huoguo in the air.

To my surprise, when I went into the room, I did not see any sign of huoguo. Where was it?

With many questions in my head, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with an English girl, I got to know that Chinese huoguo is completely different from hotpot. Chinese huoguo is written in two words——hot pot; and hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.

Hotpot is made from mutton and onion. On the top are pieces of potatoes. People put it in the oven all day in a heavy pot on a low heat. It takes very little effort to prepare. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it is easy to prepare for a large number of people and is not expensive.

Hotpot does not taste bad. However, I still miss huoguo—hot pot, two words!

1The underlined word “canteen” means “_________” in Chinese.

    A. 宿舍 B. 餐厅 C. 实验室 D. 体育馆

2The writer felt excited when she thought she would_________.

    A. try traditional English food B. learn English in the UK

    C. have her favorite huoguo D. meet some new friends

3Why is hotpot often prepared for parties? _________.

    A. Because it is easy to prepare. B. Because it is very popular.

    C. Because it is quite expensive. D. Because it is good for health.

    4What is the writer’s favorite food? _________.

    A. Sandwiches B. Mutton C. Hotpot D. Hot pot.

5After the free meal, the writer learnt that_________.

    A. “hotpot” was not “hot pot” B. hotpot took little time to cook

    C. hotpot was not traditional in the UK D. the girl knew nothing about hotpot
