二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、My daughter graduated from college this year. I couldn’t be more proud of her. Through countless hours of study, books read, papers written, and tests taken, her hard work has paid off. She is no longer a little girl. She has become a wise, giving, caring, and loving adult. She has learned so much and is ready to start the rest of her life.

I think the things I take most pride in her learning, though, aren’t the ones she learned in the classroom. They are the ones she learned through living her life. My daughter already knows things that it took me much longer to learn. She knows that money can’t buy happiness. She knows that laughter exercises the lungs and love opens up the heart. She knows that doing what you love and loving what you do turns work into play. She knows that children are life’s most precious (珍贵的) gift and that every child should be treated with kindness and love.

My daughter knows that life often isn’t fair, that society often isn’t wise, and that everyone of us will face our share of problems. She also knows, however, that with love in our hearts we can bring learning, laughter, and joy to even the toughest days. She knows that life is a journey taken on a rocky road and that sometimes we stumble. She knows that we can pick ourselves up each time and even help someone else up as well. Most of all she knows that she is still learning, just as we all are. May she always know too just how much I love her.

  • 27、   When I was 6 years old, my mom bought me a goldfish. His name was King. Some weeks after King arrived we decided to give him some friends, so I ended up with an aquarium(鱼缸) with 15 fish.

Every month, one or two fish would die and my mom used to replace them with new ones. After 3 years I lost interest in the aquarium, and my mom stopped buying new fish. The only fish remaining was King.He lived for 3 years!

Five years ago, when I was 18, I was telling to a friend how long my goldfish stayed with us, when my mom interrupted me and told me the truth,"Son, your fish didn’t live for 3 years. I’ve replaced him every time he died and you never noticed it".

My mother is creative when it comes to deceiving. If you don’t dry yourself properly after showering, your body hair is going to grow out making you look like a furry bear.‖ she dropped this on a 4-year-old me. The image of looking like a bear scared the living day lights out of me.

Her concept was simple: if you water plants, they grow. Similarly, if you water your body and you don’t dry, your hair grows.

    Well played,mom! Well played!

When I was little my Dad told me that pressing the button on the handbrake (手刹) would make the car fly and that he only used it as it was very very dangerous.

Back then I half knew he was joking but now, when I am stuck in awful traffic, I gently touch the button and tell myself it’s always there for me in case I need to use it as a comfort.

1What can we learn about King from the first three paragraphs?

A.King was the only fish that lived for 3 years.

B.King was bought with an aquarium of 15 fish.

C.Mom bought other goldfish in place of King.

D.Mom kept the death of King a secret all the time.

2Which does the underlined word deceiving in the fourth paragraph probably mean?

    A.cheating B.educating C.blaming D.explaining

3What’sthe author’s attitude towards the parents’ joking?

    A.doubtful B.unconcerned C.positive D.negative

  • 29、A character in one of Shakespeare's plays once said, "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." Any of these could apply to the modern day sportsmen. Many still argue about the nature of talent. Some claim that people are born to be sportsmen, while others say it is only through devotion and hard work that they achieve their abilities. Arguably though, it is not until their talents are acknowledged by the public that they truly have greatness fallen upon them.

With this acknowledgement of their "greatness" come all the trappings of modern day celebrity:money, power, influence and responsibility. For better or for worse, like it or hate it, modern sportsmen are the role models of children everywhere. These children will grow up admiring their heroes, devoting their lives to copying their every move, and wanting above all to be like them. Due to this fascination, particularly with the massive influence of the media, it is more important than ever for these sportsmen to acknowledge their responsibility.

In the past few months alone, there have been many examples of questionable behaviors from sports icons. Sport stars of the present day are often mirroring the very worst aspects of society, a fact that the self-righteous(自以为是的) anger of the modern press has been quick to point out. It would be wrong for us to expect sportsmen to be saints. It would also be wrong for us to think that their behavior is markedly different from the sportsmen they grew up watching, but with the all-seeing eye of modern media it is a different world, and different standards must be expected.

Of course there is no obligation for sportsmen to be good role models. There are no prison sentences, no fines, no community service—unless their behaviors are illegal. Unless they break the law, it is entirely up to them as to whether or not they think their behavior is appropriate. Furthermore, measuring the true influence their decisions have on their followers is absolutely impossible. Some will rise against their idols, seeing them in a new light and condemning their actions. Others may copy their heroes' actions, using them as a shield when accused of the same crimes.

It is undeniable that the actions of sportsmen will influence the lives of those who worship them. Modern day sportsmen are almost ideals of today's world, and their actions are watched carefully by millions over the world. Some may complain against it, denying their influence on these children's lives. Others may be aware of it but not respect it, while many may both be aware of it and respect it. In a word, you do not choose whether you are a role model. All you can do is to decide how to act when greatness is thrust upon you.

【1】In Paragraph 1, the author tries to emphasize________.

A.sportsmen become great when their gifts are recognized by people

B.sportsmen achieve greatness through their devotion and efforts

C.different ways for sportsmen to achieve success and greatness

D.the core characteristic to become great sportsmen nowadays

【2】According to Paragraph 4, we can learn that________.

A.role models usually have positive influence on their fans

B.sportsmen have the right to behave freely within the law

C.all the fans will follow their heroes' actions

D.no obligation is given to sportsmen

【3】The underlined phrase thrust upon most probably means________.

    A.palled off

    B.removed from

    C.related to

    D.forced on

【4】What is the main purpose of the passage?

A.To advise the media to choose proper events to report.

B.To inform the public that sportsmen are no role models.

C.To remind the sportsmen of their social responsibilities.

D.To argue that sportsmen should not be expected as herons.

The little prince, who lived on a tiny planet, decided to visit his neighbor planets. The first of them was inhabited by a king. Dressed in purple and white fur, he was seated a throne(王座), both simple and majestic((庄严的).

“AH! Here is a subject(臣民)!” exclaimed the king, when he saw the little prince coming.

“How could he recognize me when he had never seen me before?” the little prince asked himself. He did not know the world is simplified for kings. To them, all men are subjects.

“Come a little closer so that I may see you better,” said the king, who felt very proud of being at last a king over someone

The little prince looked around to find a place to sit down, but the entire planet was covered by the king's magnificent robe (长袍). So he remained standing upright, and, since he was tired, he yawned(打哈欠)

“It is impolite to yawn in the presence of a king, said the king. "I forbid you to do so,”

“I can't help it,” replied the little prince in confusion. “I have come on a long journey and I haven’t slept at all…”

“In that case,” said the king, "l order you to yawn. I haven't seen anybody yawning for years. Yawns are a curiosity to me. Come, now! Yawn again. It's an order. "

“You are frightening me…I cannot yawn any more... said the little prince, completely embarrassed.

“Hum! Hum!” replied the king. “Then I order you sometimes to yawn and sometimes to…”

The king was annoyed for he thought his authority should be respected. He tolerated no disobedience. But as he was a very kind man, he made his orders reasonable.

But the little prince was puzzled. The planet was tiny. Over what could this king really rule?

“Sire,” he said to the king, "I beg that you will excuse my asking you a question…”

“I order you to put your question to me, the king was quick to reply.

“Sire... over what do you rule?"

“Over everything,” said the king very simply

The king made a sweeping gesture taking in his own planet, the other planets and the stars.

Realizing his rule was not only absolute, but also universal, the little prince marveled(感到惊奇) at such power. As he enjoyed sunsets very much, he plucked up his courage(鼓起勇气) to ask the king a favor.

“I should like to see a sunset. Please do me that kindness. Order the sun to set…”

“You shall have your sunset. I shall command it. But, according to my science of government. I shall wait until conditions are favorable(有利的).”

“Hum Hum!” replied the king, checking his big calendar. “It will. be around…around.. it will be this evening about twenty minutes to eight. And you shall see how well I am obeyed.”

The little prince yawned. He was regretting his lost sunset. And then, too, he was becoming a little bored.

“I have nothing more to do here,” he said to the king. "So I shall set out on my way.

“Do not go,” said the king, who was very proud of having a subject.” I'll make you a minister!”

And when will that be?" asked the little prince

    “Minister of what?”

    “Minister of…of Justice! (司法部长)

    Paragraph 1

“But there’s nobody here to judge!” said the little prince. ……

    Paragraph 2

But the little prince, having completed his preparations for departure(离开,启程) had no wish to hurt the feelings of the old king…….
