二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Some people prefer to have a bite to eat before hitting the gym, known as a fed workout. Others would like to wait until after exercising to refuel their bodies, called a fasted workout.【1】 Many experts say there’s no easy answer because it depends on the person.

If you want energy and strength for an ideal workout, you need fuel. A fed workout will provide your body with power. Eating before exercise may help you sustain longer sessions and lift heavier weights. 【2】 Muscle preservation is also an essential component of strengthening your body. Nitrogen (氮) is critical for processing protein that builds healthy muscles. People tend to lose less nitrogen during a fed workout than a fasted one.

Many fitness enthusiasts are not on board with this idea. They report feeling sick and inactive while trying to exercise after eating. With a fasted workout, you may not get the usual indigestion. Experts for fasted workouts further claim that eating afterwards makes your body use its fat reserves for energy, meaning you will burn more fat. 【3】 It can cause a sudden drop in your blood glucose (葡萄糖) levels, and you may feel dizzy. You may even be more likely to overeat.

【4】 Not all foods are created equal. For example, if you choose a fed workout, you’ll probably lose a lot of water during an intense training, so you should consider drinking some beforehand. With a fasted workout, it would help if you had some nutrition right after your session is complete. Drink some water. Then, have a light meal or nutritional snack.

Deciding when to eat for an ideal workout is a personal choice. Both fasted workouts and fed activities have their benefits and shortcomings. 【5】

A.However, a fasted workout might not work for you.

B.How your body will respond is based on your workout intensity.

C.These benefits can result in burning more fat and shaping a slimmer body.

D.To eat or not to eat, that is the question on many fitness enthusiasts’ minds.

E.Think thoroughly and discuss with your fitness instructor before taking a choice.

F.Knowing what to eat for an ideal workout is just as important as knowing when to eat.

G.A person doing a 30-minute session a day may not have a problem with fasted workouts.

  • 27、A social phobia (恐惧症) in an anxiety disorder with strong fear in social situations. 【1】 when other people are around. Here are some suggestions to overcome social phobia.

Learn to relax. People with a social phobia often have anticipatory (预期的) anxiety. 【2】. For this, we have to learn to relax instead of having the fear of the future situation.

【3】. If we always avoid social situations out of fear, it is very difficult for us to be able to overcome them. If we try to relate to the outside of our usual circle, we will feel more comfortable little by little. In this way, when a social event arrives that we want to attend or take part in, we will be better able to be comfortable in it.

Imagination can play tricks on us in social situations. In most cases you are afraid of things that have not happened or are not happening. 【4】.

Be yourself. To some degree, social phobia is caused by the belief that we have to be perfect as others expect. 【5】. So we do not have to focus so much on what others may think of us, but on feeling comfortable with ourselves without having to be perfect.

    A.Look for social situations

B.Be imaginative in solving social issues

C.Perhaps you have a phobia about flying

D.We have to learn to accept and trust ourselves

E.In other words, they worry about the situation before it happens

F.We have to be worried about what we think others may be thinking of us

G.People with social phobia feel fear, as well as nervousness, pain or shyness

  • 28、Everything from essays to exams is threatened by advanced artificial intelligence like ChatGPT, which can produce clear answers to complex questions. Educators are particularly concerned about students turning to AI tools like ChatGPT with their homework. One suggested solution is to make students write exam essays using pen and paper. 【1】

To stay competitive through their careers, students need to learn how to use AI writing tools properly to gain output. 【2】 As professionals working into the 2060s and beyond, they will need to learn how to deal with AI systems effectively.

In addition to the sound reasons for treating ChatGPT as an opportunity and not a threat, there are practical ones. It simply isn’t possible to effectively ban this technology. Many students can’t help using AI assistance while writing. 【3】 While there are tools aimed at judging text produced by AI, future versions of AI will get better at emulating (模仿) human writing-including the style of the particular person who is using it.

【4】 Some students, who use ChatGPT despite the ban, would avoid being found cheating in their writing, through luck or thanks to careful editing. Worse still, some students would be falsely charged with using ChatGPT, causing great stress and even leading to wrong punishment.

Writing is a skill worthy of great respect. But most students don’t have the desire to become professional writers. Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to further goals beyond the production of writing. As we do today, they will write to communicate, explain, request and persuade. 【5】

A.The ban of ChatGPT would also produce the injustice.

B.There is argument that the use of ChatGPT is good for education.

C.AI writing tools, when properly used, will help them do those things better.

D.Learning to write without AI does indeed promote focused, disciplined thinking.

E.But that’s wrong to ban students from using labor-saving and time-saving AI writing tools.

F.Besides, the AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to discover AI text.

G.They need to learn to compose well-organized essays using AI-produced text and traditional writing.

  • 29、In my mind, there is a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart.

Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. Being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. Despite his hard training at all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ever played.

This teenager lived alone with his father, and the relationship between the two of them was very special. Even though the son was always on the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of the class when he entered high school. But his father continued to encourage him.

The young man loved football and was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he’d get to play when he became a senior. All through high school he never missed a practice nor a game but remained a benchwarmer. Besides, his faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him. When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a “walk—on”. Everyone firmly believed that he could never make the cut, but he did.

The news that he had survived the cut thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but actually he never got the real chance to play in a game.

It was at the end of his senior football season that the coach met him with a telegram. The young man read the telegram and he became totally silent. Swallowing hard, he mumbled to the coach, “My father died this morning. Is it all right if I miss practice today?” The coach put his arm gently around his should and said, “Take the rest of the week off, son. And don’t even plan to come back to the game on Saturday.”

Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines (边线), the coach and his players were surprised to see their faithful teammate back so soon. “Coach, please let me play. I’ve just got to play today,” said the young man.

The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this close play—off game. But the young man insisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. “All right,” he said. “You can go in.’’ Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before, was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, passed, blocked, and tackled like a star. His team began to succeed. The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid got a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown.

Finally, after the stands had emptied, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the corner all alone. The coach came to him and said, “Kid, you were unbelievably fantastic! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it?”

He looked at the coach, tears in his eyes, and said “Well, you knew my had died, but did you know that my dad was blind?” The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, “Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him I could make it!”

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、Eileen Collins

Although she’s never walked on a runway with models in a fancy dress, Eileen Collins is referred to by many as “Miss Universe”. That’s because Collins (1956—  ) is an a1 and NASA’s first female shuttle pilot and mission commander.

Until quite recently, this profession was one you’d only find men in. There seemed to be little p2 of entry for females. For them, therefore, Collins is a pioneer(先锋).

In 1995, she piloted the Discovery shuttle during flight t3 the Russian Space Station. Four years later, she headed a shuttle mission aboard Columbia.

Collins’ achievement is not something that happens o4. It takes years, even decades, of preparation. But to understand the roots of Collins’ love of piloting, we have to go back to her c5. Collins knew from a very young age that she belonged to the skies. She grew up in Elmira in New York State, a town with a significant flight history. The first US National Gliding Contest was h6 there in 1930.

Collins’ passion was also helped by books on the Wright brothers. Starting at age 16, Collins took on small jobs and three years later, she had s7 enough money to accomplish her dream of learning to fly. S8 when the US Air Force opened its doors to female pilots in 1978, the young woman applied and started her t9 as a military pilot. Her team described her as humble (谦卑的) despite all her achievements.

Her parents agree. “She is very down-to-earth. N10 handed her anything. Everything she is today, she’s earned,” her mother said.
