26、Some people call it a traveling museum.Others refer to it as a living or openair museum.Built in Brazil to honor Columbus’ first voyage to the New World, the Nina, a Columbusera replica(复制品) ship, provides visitors with an accurate visual of the size and sailing equipment of Columbus’ favorite ship from over 500 years ago.
I joined the crew of the Nina in Gulf Shores,Alabama,in February 2013.As part of a research project sponsored by my university,my goal was to document my days aboard the ship in a blog.I quickly realized that I gained the most valuable insights when I observed or gave tours to schoolage children. The fieldtrip tour of the Nina is handson learning at its best.In this setting, students could touch the line, pass around a ballast stone(压舱石),and move the extremely large tiller that controlled the direction of the ships in Columbus’ days. They soon came to understand the labor involved in sailing the ship back in his time.I was pleased to see the students become active participants in their learning process.
The Nina is not the only traveling museum that provides such field trips. A visit to Jamestown Settlement, for example, allows visitors to board three recreations of the ships that brought the first settlers from England to Virginia in the early 1600s. Historical guides, dressed in period costumes, give tours of the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. These guides often portray a character that would have lived and worked during that time period.Students touring these ships are encouraged to interact with the guides in order to better understand the daily life in the past.
My experience on the Nina helps testify(证实) my longheld belief that students stay interested, ask better questions, and engage(参与)in higherorder thinking tasks when they are actively engaged in the learning process. The students who boarded the Nina came as passive learners. They left as bold explorers.

28、The concepts of green Games and sustainability have been embedded(嵌入)in the entire process of preparing for and delivering the Beijing Winter Olympics, Li Sen, an official from the organizing committee stressed on Wednesday.
China plans to peak its carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality(碳中和)before 2060. At Beijing 2022, the country is translating those promises into concrete actions. Beijing made hosting carbon-neutral Games a key component of its bid(努力) for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Li said, adding that it has fulfilled this promise in terms of venues(场馆), energy, transportation and even administrative work.
Six venues used for the 2008 Summer Olympics have been transformed for use at the 2022 Winter Games, including the Water Cube—also called the "Ice Cube" for the duration of Beijing 2022—the Capital Indoor Stadium and Wukesong Arena. “Reusing the old venues has reduced carbon emissions compared to the alternative of building new ones,” Li added.
As for ecological conservation, he said organizers have put resource saving and environmental friendliness in the first place. “We have implemented integrated(整体的) plans for ecological conservation to protect the mountains and rivers,” Li said.
When mentioning the Yanqing competition zone, Li said that organizers carried out environmental impact assessment work before the Games and integrated sustainability into the planning and construction of the venues, including the protections of plants. “We relocated those plants in the construction area to nearby spots or other conservation areas where they are carefully tended to and are growing well,” Li said.
Beijing 2022’s sustainability plans have gained praise from the International Olympic Committee. “In the time of Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022, the commitment to sustainability has advanced remarkably, both in sport and in Beijing ,” said Marie Sallois, IOC director of corporate and sustainable development.

A.The 2008 and 2022 Beijing Olympics are both successful.

29、 It is often claimed that nuclear energy is something we cannot do without. We live in a consumer society, where there is a huge demand for commercial products of all kinds. Moreover, an increase in industrial production is considered to be one solution to the problem of mass unemployment. Such an increase needs an abundant and cheap energy supply. Many people believe that nuclear energy is endless and economical. There are a number of other advantages in the use of nuclear energy. Firstly, nuclear power, except for accidents, is clean. A further advantage is that a nuclear power station can be run by relatively few technical and managing staff. The nuclear power station represents a large step in our scientific research and, whatever the anti-nuclear group says, it is wrong to expect a return to more primitive sources of fuel.
However, those who disagree with nuclear energy point out that nuclear power stations bring a direct threat not only to the environment but also to the human race. Furthermore, it is doubtful whether finally nuclear power is a cheap source of energy. There have, for example, been very costly accidents in America and Russia. The possibility of increases in the cost of uranium and the cost to ensure its safety could price nuclear power out of the market. In the long run, environmentalists argue, nuclear energy may bring about the destruction of the human race. Thus, if we wish to survive, we cannot afford nuclear energy. Though nuclear energy programs are expanding, which assumes a continual growth in industrial production and consumer demands, it is doubtful whether this growth will or can continue.
Having weighed up the arguments on both sides, it seems there are good economic and environmental reasons for sources of energy other than nuclear power.
【1】According to the passage, an increase in industrial production can ________.
