You will read about how you are a citizen in your school, community and nation. A citizen is a person who belongs to a place. You are a citizen of the community where you live and the nation where you were born.

    Citizens Have Rights

As a citizen, you have rights that the government protects. A right is something you may do. As a citizen, you have a right to speak freely and to practise your religion(宗教). You also have the right to privacy(隐私). That means you may decide what to show or tell someone and what not to tell.

    Citizens Have Responsibilities(责任)

Along with rights, citizens have responsibilities. A responsibility is something that you should do. For example, you should follow the laws. A law is a rule that everyone in a community, state or country must follow. Laws keep people safe and help them get along well with one another. When people follow the traffic laws, they help keep others safe. When you follow laws in a park, you help others enjoy the park.

  • 25、   My dear son,

Your letter of last week reached us yesterday, and I enclose 13, which is all I have on me at present. I may sell the other pig next week and make up the balance of what you wanted. I will probably have to wear the old buffalo overcoat to meetings again this winter, but that doesn’t matter so long as you are getting education.

I hope you will get your education as cheap as you can, for it cramps your mother and me like a hill to put up the money Mind you. I don’t complain. I know the clothes cost so much.

I want you to be educated so that you can go anyway and spell the hardest word, I want you to be able to go among the Romans or the Medes and Persians and talk to any of them in their own native tongue.

I never had any advantages when I was boy but your mother and I decided that we would make you full of knowledge if you keep studying hard. regardless (不考虑 ) of money.

Now, regarding that boat - padding suit, and that baseball suit, and that bathing suit, and that roller- rinkturn suit, and that lawn-lennis suit, mind. We have a much colder winter here than we used to, or else I’m failing in bodily health. Last winter I tried to go through without underclothes, the way I did when I was a boy, but a cold wave came down our way and picked me out of a crowd.

Ken: What were you doing, Jack? What did you see?

Jack: It was half past nine last night and I was getting ready for bed. I heard some strange noise outside while I was brushing my teeth. I wondered what was happening and I went to the window and looked out. To my surprise, I saw a bright yellow green light in the sky.

  • 27、Youth, friendship and love are the main themes of these years’ Chinese movies, such as So Young (《致青春》) and American Dreams in China (《中国合伙人》). Tiny Times (《小时代》), one of the most popular movies in 2013, also has the same features(特征).

The movie was based on writer and director Guo Jingming’s novel of the same name. It tells a story about four girls who come from different backgrounds and of different personalities.

Since its release(发行) on June 27, Tiny Times has made 483 million yuan at the box office. The sequel (续集) of it was released on Aug 8 and it has also been a big_____hit.

Cao Yuhan, 13, a high school student at Beijing Jianhua Experimental School, is a big fan of the movie. “I’m deeply touched by their friendship,” Cao said. “When Nan Xiang is in trouble, the other three girls try their best to help her, even running barefoot in the snow.”

However, not everyone has had good things to say. The People’s Daily said that the film went too far in encouraging youths to become materialistic (物质至上主义的).

Film commentator(评论员) Raymond Zhou wrote on his online blog that “Purchasing luxury goods (买奢侈品) seems as a way to express love or friendship, and the word ‘money’ is repeated over and over again.”

Song Kexin, 14, a high school student at Zhida Middle School in Taiyuan, Shanxi, shows a typical example of a fan’s attitude. And that’s to look for the positive(积极的) value. “The movie is a little far from our daily life. My friends and I are not having parties every day,” Song said. “But I admire Tang Wanru’s optimistic attitude(乐观主义态度). She’s always looking at the bright side of life. I should learn from her.”

2】【2According to the article, the movie Tiny Times _________.

3】【3What’s the meaning of “box office”?

    A. 办公室   B. 小亭子   C. 票房   D. 小卖部

    A. It shows money expresses love or friendship.

    B. It encourages the young to work hard.

    C. The four girls’ friendship is touching.

    D. It has many advertisements for luxury goods.

5】【5Which of the following is true according to the passage?
